The main issue you have to worry about are frame sizes when going offline to online. If you offline in OFFLINE RT, or DV for HD, then any moves on stills, or push ins on media, will have to be recreated at full resolution.

In my not so humble opinion, unless you are working is some HUGE format, the time and aggravation to work offline/online is just not worth it. Spare drives are ridiculously inexpensive. Purchase them by the dozen.
