new macbook pro 2011 weak and dropping wireless connection

    DanielF823 --- I have a glossy 15" Hi Res display on mine and the same issues ... so it not the aluframe related issue. I have the issue on both Win7 and OsX. ---

    I'm sure not everyone realizes that this issue exists because they don't usually connect to public WiFi hotspots or multiple / different wireless connections in general. ... As I mentioned before, a USB WiFi dongle works great on both OsX and Win7 on all wireless networks everywhere, so its not an OS issue or a network security / encryption problem. Its probably a firmware / driver or hardware issue in the new Broadcom chipsets / 2011 MBPs.

    is there a way to get anyone from Apple to look at this thread ?

    I'm updating now to test ... as indicated in the release notes:

    "Address issues in the AirPort driver for certain devices."

    Does not suggest specifically if it fixes the issues with the Broadcom chipsets on 2011 MBPs .

    I just upgraded to OS X 10.6.7 and there was no change to the latency issues.

    AirPort card's firmware still appears to be the same version.

    Completed upgrade to 10.6.7 ... no testing done yet.

    For my BootCamp Windows 7 (64 Bit), I ran the BootCamp assistant on Mac OS X after the upgrade to 10.6.7 and had it download the windows support software and write it to a DVD. Then boot up Win 7 and opened the DVD drive (right click > Open) to run "Boot Camp > Drivers > Broadcom > BroadcomNetworkAdaptorWin7_64.exe" ... this apparently installed an updated driver for the Broadcom wireless network adapter. Updated from ver. 5.100.198.11 (Dated 1/22/2011) to ver. 5.100.198.14 (Dated 2/17/2011).

    So the driver seems to have updated to a newer build / version for me. Apparently the latency and connection isses are still there ...

    On windows I still get "Windows was unable to connect to ...." error messages several times before it manages to connect for a short while ... even then there is no internet connectivity ... the USB WiFi and my other laptop and iPhone connect without any issues whatsoever !

    I have talked to Apple (And I higher level Wifi-Specialist tech with them) And they said, that since it was in windows that I was experiencing the problem, and not in OSX I would have to call Microsoft... and it was not their issue... I also Said that there were white a few people who were having the same issue...

    Like other people have said it's most likely minimally the routers fault but mostly the drivers... I doubt the firmware is the culprit...

    Speaking on hardware I am just waiting for the Tri-Band routers to come out... I have a 30MB connection and my dual band is a bottle neck of sorts...

    Airport extreme is able ti transfer at 100mb when its not droping traffic from new macbooks pro. So You can elemenate the bottleneck

    was hoping that 10.6.7 would sort this and even whooped with joy when I saw there was an update, sadly same issues still persist - spoke to apple support uk and was sent the following article

    not the greatest but I'm not sure he knew what else to suggest.

    didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the suggestion that I could connect via ethernet instead - it's PORTABLE laptop Apple ! P-O-R-T-A-B-L-E.

    Ironically, my Mac Pro, iPad, iPod and old MacBook Pro are all seamlessly connected via my Netgear Router.

    Better go switch off that microwave oven hey.

    I have a brand new 15" MBP Early 2011 and it seems to drop its wifi connection when I let the computer idle.

    I have a brand new Airport Extreme so its not like I'm using some random router. I also only use OS X, so its not an OS issue.

    Definitley an issue, without a doubt.

    Unfortunately, The Update resolved NOTHING.

    My ping respond times are just as bad as they were before and I am still experiencing constant Kernel-Panic screen.

    Same problems here but only with certain APs (Comtrend) in MacOSX. In Windows 7 (bootcamp) no problems at all.

    Same here, Apple please fix it ASAP. That's just ridiculous for people to restart AirPort on daily basis.

    First of all its an issue that occurs on Mac OS X as well

    How do you go about changing the router for every WiFi you have to connect to ... I have no control over all the public wifi hotspots at restaurants and hotels .... and why does a $25 USB Wifi device, my old laptop, my iPhone and every other person's device work without any issues at the same location and my MBP refuses to connect ?

    It's been over 48 hours since I spoke with apple care, after upgrading to 10.6.7, we reset the power management, and then the PRAM, and so far I've stayed connected and not dropped.
    Hopefully not speaking too soon......just wait till next time I have to hit the space bar to wake from sleep........

    Okay ... the moderator / admin / host removed parts of my previous post ... about Apple advertising everywhere that MBPs can run windows and at the same time a senior wifi specialist claiming that its a windows issue and they won't help ... I'm not repeating that comment here so please don't remove this one ... because it would then be censorship and not moderation.
