Hi!

My Lexicon I-ONIX u82s does not wake up along with the Mac and hard drives after a night in sleep mode (closing the lid), but has to be disconnected and reconnected again for Logic (and the OSX all in all) to be able to play through it again. Quite anoying. Anyone haveing the same problem, or even more interesting: an sollution?

Kind (and cold) regards from Norway.

MacBook Pro i5, Mac OS X (10.6.4), Lexicon I-ONIX u82s, G-Drive mini 500GB, WD Elements SE Portable 500GB

If you "apply" certain parameters in audio preferences in Logic, it reset the audio driver. Maybe that will be simpler than a reboot.

OK... Do you know what parameters?

    Any one of these:

Change any of these, change them back, and click *Apply Changes*.

But isn't it any way of turning of USB-powersaving instead?

I don't understand the question. USB-powersaving? Never heard of that.

    Hi,

Do what all normal DAW users do:
TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER at night.
That will save a lot more energy than turning it to sleep mode.
And it will not crap out on you.

Eriksimon: OSX/MacBook Pro obviously turns of the USB-port when in sleep mode.

Noeqplease: When working with a project I often need to have Logic constantly open, so I can jump right into it when I get a new idea... Having to wait for OSX to boot up, and Logic to start and open the project sometimes put a break on the creative prosess.

    Hi espenandre.

I guess then that you can do what you have been doing, then, and continue complaining.
    Just ignore my suggestion.

noeqplease: I'm not a complaining kind of guy, rather one who likes to find sollutions to problems.
The problem here is that the soundcard supplier knows about their soundcards behaviour when the Mac/OSX is going into sleep mode, but don't know if and when there will be a fix. The sollution for me is then to find a workaround for this. Ergo, me trying to force USB to stay on even when the rest of the machine is having it's beauty sleep...

    Ok, then try my "workaround"...

BTW almost every audio peripheral I have ever worked with does not like it when the computer goes to sleep.

PC-Windows does offer some options for keeping USB active both in the motherboard's BIOS and the OS software... however, it's usually the manufacturer's job to have their audio card driver poll the device to keep certain systems active. The problem is the Mac's BIOS equivalent/firmware is hard wired so the the computer will probably not sleep if USB is prevented from going into power saving mode. On a PC you can usually set the hardware to not "wake-up" when USB is polled so it's easy to get around the problem.

The next best scenario is having the audio driver re-initialize the connection between the audio card and the system as it comes out of sleep mode. This would be up to the manufacturer.

I have had constant problems with Sound Card disconnect.

First I had a Mackie Onyx 1220 Mixer which had a built in sound card. This disconnected at random for so long that eventually I bought a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40.

This does disconnect .. but not as often. It has kind of 'settled down'

    * * *

I have done the complete gamut of looking at solutions and the only one that works for me is to quit Logic - switch the audio interface off and then on, and then reboot Logic.

It does not take too long.. and I have got used to the occasional interruption to creative flow

I got an firmware-update for the IO82 from Lexicon-support, and used it on my u82s. The interface still disconnects, but it helped my firewire disc not to disconnect anymore!

So let me get this straight:
There is NO way to prevent my mac from shuting down the power to my USB Audio Interface when it suspends?

In windows there is an option in USB devices, something like "prevent from going to sleep" or something...

Even when imnot recording and stay away fromthe mac and it suspends when i wake it up the audio device makes a loud pop sound turning on, i hate that. Maybe its because im using anoutdated Mbox 2 =(
