Anyone having trouble downloading maps for this app? I'm trying to DL a 3 state area, left it running overnight and it only downloaded ~ 4%. I've noticed it's always pretty slow downloading so I assume it's their server getting hammered?

I've noticed that it is pretty slow, even when using wifi so it must be related to the server that it accessing as you say. I've learnt to download smaller areas, more closely tailored to what I need so as to minimise the number of tiles that are downloaded. Other than this a great app and will be better when they allow for some kind of synchronising between my iPhone and my iPad.

Good to know it wasn't just me or some setting I had adjusted incorrectly.I was trying to download west Texas, New Mexico and most of Colorado at a zoom level where all three states show down to street level views. I think it was an incredible number of "plates" that were required to download for that range of zoom. I wish there was some way to stitch together routes so there multiple downloads were not needed.

Usually the iPad stops downloading when it enters the sleep mode.
Go to Settings, General, Auto-Lock and adjust the time there to "Never". After DL put it back to 5 Minutes or so.
Or use the computer to download that file…

OMG, you're right, I bet it is going into sleep mode. I'm not sure if I can DL the maps on my Macbook and then transfer them to the iPad though...

BTW I noticed our sign up date is exactly one year apart.

If you are not sure, then just use the iPad to download the files. Make sure you set the "Auto-Lock" to never. You maybe want to dim the display too and make sure you connect the iPad to the power supply.

Cool, we are one year apart

    enjoy you magic machine

I noticed if you set the GPS to Manual Position and not have the GPS on at all when downloading maps, it downloads maps a little bit faster.

Yeah, same here. On both the iPad 1st gen and the iPhone 4 downloading maps is too slow to be usable. I have been trying to download a few states at zoom 16. First it gives me some ridiculous estimate like 1.2TB and not enough space message (of course, duh!). So I need to do this little by little. The estimates are way off. The last map I downloaded was estimated at just over 1GB and the actual map ended up being about 50MB and took an entire night to d/l. I have been trying to download the maps for the last two weeks. And I gave up today. They should offer a way to d/l the maps on the computer and then over USB. Garmin map of the US and Canada with detail down to 150 feet is just under 4GB. There are some serious bugs in Motion X. This makes the software useless for me. I don't think any of those raving reviewers actually tried to d/l maps. This is a one star app right now.

A three state area is a lot of data. I doubt that would even fit on a 64GB model.

No, it's not a lot of data. The Garmin City Navigator North America that covers the entire USA and Canada with zoom down to 120 feet and includes hundreds of thousands of POIs fits on a 4GB SD card. These are just raw numbers, not graphics, there is no reason for these maps to be so huge. This is either a bug or their maps are poorly made.

I've the same problem. Iphone 3gs iOS 5,1 and latest version of Motion-X

    Maps download is TERRIBLY SLOW!

And its a pity because this is the best application gps activities and stuff.

Might be that the server is slow, and they are saving bandwidth i dont know, but right now it us not usable with BING maps which occupy much more space than Terrain-X and Road-X
