iOS 4.3 and WiFi

Hi all,

I upgraded yesterday to iOS 4.3. Since then, I've found the wifi connection on my iPhone to be very inconsistent. Even though a signal is received from the router, it seems to have a lot of trouble holding a connection to the internet...I've had to go 3G repeatedly today. I know it's not a problem with my wifi because my two computers are both working fine. Please advise!

Before iOS 4.3 my iPhone 4 and iPad connected to my Netgear router without any issues but as soon as I updated to 4.3 they both kept dropping the wifi connection after about 5 or so seconds. I then purchased the iPad 2 and, of course, this had the exact same issue.

After searching the net and trying to change lots of different settings on my router I discovered that just by changing the name of my router's SSID solved it. I changed it to a number rather than a name (don't know if this is significant or not but I'm not changing it again to find out).

Hope this helps anyone who may be tearing their hair out as I have these last few days.

Good idea, but it didn't work for me unfortunately. My iMac and original iPhone get full bars, but my iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 don't. All of them are in the same place, equidistant from a Time Capsule (creating the network) and an AirPort Express (extending the network). It's definitely been a problem since installing iOS 4.3, but my iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1) suggests something's going on with it too.

I have installed iOS 4.3.1 on all my iphones and I am no longer able to access my Wi-Fi router. I had the same problem with iOS 4.3 . Also i am not able to access public router as i used to.

Definitely there is a bug on iOS 4.3.X because i never had a problem with my iphones connecting to any Wi-Fi router and now all my 3 iphones are no longer able to connect any WiFi network.

I already ERASE all iphones but the problem remains.

It looks like APPLE is becoming MICROSOFT in the sense that each upgrade resolve one problem and creates other ones.

Can someone help us OR do we need to wait 6 months until apple decides that theres is a problem on it?

Kind regards,
Paulo

I have 4.3 on my iPad 1 and now 4.3.1 on my iPhone 4. The iPad is working fine but my iPhone will either not connect or stay connected to my wifi router. It started with the installation on 4.3 and I hoped 4.3.1 would fix it but it remains the same.

Things I've done to the iPhone: Updated to 4.3.1, reset the network settings more times than I care to mention, wiped the phone and did a clean install of 4.3.1.

Things I've done to the router: It is a Linksys WRT310N. I already had the latest firmware, the band is set to "Mixed", security has been removed, WMM has been "enabled" and "disabled" a number of times to see if that changed anything - it didn't, I've tried running "G Only", I have unplugged and reset the router a half dozen times....

Currently I can get it to connect after a few tries, but it disconnects frequently and has to be tried a couple of times to get it to pick up the signal again. If it goes to sleep it will typically lose the signal. Again my iPad 1 is working fine on 4.3 but my iPhone hasn't worked on wifi since I upgraded to 4.3 and there wasn't an improvement with 4.3.1

Apple have done something to the firmware with 4.3 as my iPhone worked flawlessly with the router on 4.2.. What a waste of time this has become and has made my iPhone unuseable on wifi which is my main business tool during the day. It has truly has lowered my opinion of Apple as I love their products, but this problem should have been flushed out before this firmware went public. Shame on Apple!!

I wouldn't let this lower your opinion about Apple too much. Apple is usually very good with updates, but, once updates are in the wild, a problem occasionally surfaces that was completely unexpected. This is true of all firmware/software/hardware makers. Apple is probably well aware of the issue (and its cause) and is currently working on a fix, which will hopefully be released soon. As suggested earlier in this thread, go to http://www.apple.com/feedback/to report your specific issues.

I don't find that to have ever been the case with Apple.

Apple doesn't respond to individual Feedback submissions (they even state that they don't), but software/firmware bugs are addressed (quickly, in cases of wide-spread or critical security problems, or eventually as part of regular updates for lesser issues affecting smaller numbers of users). Either way, if problems aren't brought to Apple's attention, they can't be fixed.

The time you wasted complaining about Feedback here on this forum could have been used to report your specific issues to help Apple engineers solve the problem. But clearly, it's your time to waste.

I'm sure the issue will be resolved in due time. If your problem is truly severe or you just want speedier service, contact Apple Support directly:

So, I upgraded to 4.3.1. Upon doing so, I "restored" my iphone to factory settings, and then reinstalled everything from my backup.

This seems to have solved the wi-fi connection issue. My Facetime sessions are more or less normal now, though still not as smooth or as consistent as before.

The problem that DOES persist is bluetooth connectivity! The phone always connects to my Sony HBH IS800 BT headset, but it sends the sound to the headset completely at random it seems.

Great news for you, Payam!

I did the same thing, but my issue persists. Fortunately for me, the problem seems to be cosmetic (i.e., the WiFi indicator doesn't show full bars), and doesn't seem to be adversely affecting my usage in any noticeable way. I'm sure Apple is aware of the issue a fix is on the way.

Same issue here. iPhone 3GS with zero wifi issues now has constant disconnects and inconsistent wifi range after the upgrade to iOS 4.3. I have tested it against 4 different wifi networks/routers, including AirPort Extreme.

I called Apple Support...who spoke as if they are aware there is an issue. I have to assume a fix is on the way...?
