Feb 14, 2011 5:22 AM in response to dhjdhjby JasTheMusicman,Not sure if anyone can chip in here but...I'm not sure if it's coincidence or not, but one additional thing we did was to eliminate the risk of the expression pedal (which uses CC11) to prevent accidental dropouts as well...not to be confused by the "real" dropouts that have been happening. But ever since we did this, we haven't had a repeat problem.
This also begs the question, and maybe I just forgot, why does Mainstage use CC 11 to drop the volume/affect output in a channel strip anyway?? I would have thought only CC 7 would affect volume. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that Expression = Volume. -
Feb 14, 2011 5:27 AM in response to JasTheMusicmanby dhjdhj,Usually, expression is used to superimpose temporary volume changes. So you would use CC 7 to control the overall volume of the track but you would use CC 11 to do things like temporary crescendos --- you wouldn't be able to do that if you only had a single CC available. -
Feb 14, 2011 11:05 AM in response to dhjdhjby JasTheMusicman,Ah, understood...good explanation, thanks!
Do you think there's any chance the dropout and CC11 are related in any way? i.e. some kinda bug problem. -
Feb 14, 2011 11:08 AM in response to JasTheMusicmanby dhjdhj,I don't know --- I have stopped using exs and I use Kontakt instead. I just wish the MainStage people would address this stuff before I die! -

Feb 17, 2011 8:00 AM in response to kazooman2by Foxboy71,Add me to the list.
Had my first 2-second-dropout lately. However, it only first affected one patch. I was forced to close mainstage - beachball of death - forced quit - restarted - all was well at least for today.

Feb 18, 2011 7:54 PM in response to dhjdhjby ramalama,Hate to say this, as a Mac 'liker' but Brainspawn Forte on PC is very stable - and responsive to tech support requests. -
Feb 18, 2011 7:58 PM in response to ramalamaby JasTheMusicman,Interesting, had no awareness of Forte...thanks!

Feb 25, 2011 6:31 AM in response to JasTheMusicmanby ramalama,Forte is not as advanced as Mainstage so far as graphics and midi routing are concerned but it is very stable. Brainspawn (maker of Forte) has a page on their website discussing system requirements.

Feb 25, 2011 7:09 AM in response to ramalamaby dhjdhj,For me, it's the MIDI routing that is a key reason to continue to use MainStage. I barely use its audio stuff anymore -
Mar 23, 2011 2:59 PM in response to JasTheMusicmanby dhjdhj,Has anyone looked at Cantabile as an alternative to MainStage?

Apr 1, 2011 7:51 AM in response to kazooman2by lrizzo2001,first post was APRIL 3RD 2008.
So, 3 years and 6 pages worth of posts later and Apple still hasn't come up with a fix? I think it's safe to say I'll never use MS2 live....
Has anybody from Apple even monitored this thread?? Would love to hear from them. -
Apr 3, 2011 6:36 AM in response to lrizzo2001by Foxboy71,...one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch I am sure that they look into their own forum from time to time. I also assume many of us here have reported this bug to http://www.apple.com/feedback
Anyway: Has anybody at least found a workaround for this? A guy in the Logic Express forum also has experienced this problem with Garageband, so it might be related to the general EXS sample handling.

Apr 3, 2011 7:00 AM in response to Foxboy71by dhjdhj,I have a workaround, but you won't like it.
Use Native Instruments Kontakt instead of EXS -
Apr 3, 2011 7:29 AM in response to Foxboy71by lrizzo2001,if I had a dollar for everytime I've sent a message to apple.com/feedback I could hire my own team to find the problem and fix it for me.
I don't know what you mean by one bad apple, there's clearly an entire field of apple trees here and we are all in the same boat and have yet to even get an acknowledgement from Apple tech support.
This problem is certainly linked to the EXS sampler alone since everything else will continue to function fine, this an issue with the EXS dropping off the Streaming part of the samples, I don't know if it's losing it's link to the location of the EXS factory sample folder, but that's how it's behaving.
