Why would iCal send an e-mail indicating that I’tentatively’ accepted a meeting if I confirmed or accepted the invitation (i.e clicked ‘Accepted’ and not ‘Maybe)? This happens if I accept an invitation via iPhone, MobileMe or iCal on my Mac

This also happens with my Mac/iPhone!
    Someone any ideas?

I was in touch with the MobileMe support for the last month. They tried some things and did some testing but were not able to solve the issue in any positive way. I am really disappointed.

    Any news?

I am having a major issue with this. It is driving my colleagues nuts because they think I'm being arrogant, like "I accept unless something better comes up." This needs a fix Please help if you have a solution....

I have the same problem. I talked to people who received two emails, first one accepting the invitation and then other saying that it is tentatively accepted. It is quite confusing for the one who received these mails.

Any solution will be extremely appreciated

I looked into this and spent a couple of hours with Apple Support. We tried a few things. Nothing worked. It became clear that the issue was not present for MobileMe to MobileMe invitations, and to my mind appears to specifically be an issue with the MobileMe Calendar server.

The problem is when an invitation is received via email using an ics file, opened and accepted by ical and synced with the MobileMe server.  The MobileMe Calendar server sends an email saying "Dave Smith has tentatively accepted your invitation to:"....

The senior support person claimed that this was not an ical issue or a mobileme issue or even an Apple issue. He said that this was a problem with every other calendar program.  He said the Mobileme upgrade is mandatory and mobileme calendar servers no longer use ics files, so the problem is with every other calendar vendor (Gmail, exchange servers, anyone using a PC). I disagreed but ultimately he wasn't budging.  He claimed the MobileMe server was sending correct information to the world it was just that every other calendar program was misinterpreting the information.

The fact is that every time I accept an invitation in the form of an ics file, MobileMe sends an email on Apple + MobileMe letterhead with the "tentatively accepted" junk and an ics file for the organizer.   And in order to copy a meeting request from someone else into ical/MobileMe Calendar I have to accept it.  There is no way around it without typing the event into my calendar manually.

I don't know why I commit myself to MobileMe, especially when they are in utter denial about issues.  This is not the only thread out there about iCal invitation issues.  They need to hear more from users and maybe they'll start to change their tune.  This is ridiculous and is not an issue with other calendar programs as the support people claim.

One thing the support person did suggest is that I consider using gmail calendar.  That may have been his best suggestion!

Same thing on my Macbook Pro, this creates trouble with my clients who send invitations from PCs with Exchange and my answer to them is 'tentatively'.

Apple, pls solve this ASAP. Thanks!

Has anyone heard of a solution to this most irritating problem?

Having the same problem with my new Lion MacBook Air -- it is really irritating to my clients. They get replies from "me" before I've even opened the invitation email. Apple, this is NOT acceptable. If the rest of the world is using calendars that send ics files, then Mac users need to speak their language. This was not a problem before. Why now?
