I want to use the apple remote to run keynote and itunes on an ipad. Will this work? If not, is there some way to remotely run apps on the ipad?

NO, the ipad does't have an ir receiver, so no it can't , maybe some unofficial ipad dock will work, but there is no extension for it.

It isn't possible to remotely use applications. You can use your ipad or iphone to remotely use mac applications though.

Some of the older standard iPod docks have a IR receiver. Is there an plug extender cable that be run from one of those docks to an iPad? It would be interesting to see if that would work.

I did find a 30 pin extender cable. To the extent that you can control an iPod, specifically an iPod Touch, through an Apple IR equipped dock, the same functionality seems to be available with the iPad2 and I suspect with the original iPad. You can control the music player app. I do not know if other apps can be controlled.

The apple ipod/iphone dock will work with remote, but the ipad dock doesn't have an IR receiver , so the 30 pin extender cable won't work, also, the ipad ios doesn't support apple remote!! (maybe a jailbreak?)

    Hello ,

YES the Ipad works with the apple remote

This is my first post ever, since this was a big question for me I decided to buy an universal dock, I already have the Ipad 1st gen dock, so I destructed it just keeping the card with the 30 pins connectors, I connected the Universal dock output 30 pin connector to the ipod dock card 30 pin connector, then I connected the iPad dock 30 pin connector to the Ipad2 input. Buola... It works smoothly. I can play/ stop my playlists, and adjust the volume aswell. Some interesting facts I've found so far are, the universal dock works without the fire wire connection, the IR receiver is very sensible, I can point to it from backwards and works fine.

Hope this experiment helps to anyone else

    Saludos

You can run Keynote on the the Mac, an iPad, an iPhone or iPod Touch from another iPad, iPhone or an iPod Touch using the 99¢ Apple Keynote Remore app.

Hey, so happy to read your post.

Just got of the phone w/ the Apple support centre.

They told me the iPad DOES have the same interface and controls so APPLE REMOTE should work once you get it connected to a UNIVERSAL DOCK.

Now how to connect them :-S

I guess I could get a 30 pin 'Dock connector 2 Dock connector'

    http://www.amazon.com/Connector-Extender-Extension-Cable-iPhone/dp/B004BJLXAM/re f=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But since I would like to integrate my iPad3 w/ a 2 channel mixer and some microphones all together in a case, I am curious as to how you solved your 'remodeling' of your UNIVERSAL DOCK and if it still works.

Could you perhaps tell me how you went about it and/or send me a picture of it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Bello SW Stanley,

The extension cord will not work, i have tried it without positive results. If You want to control your ipad music with an universal remote You will need to get the universal remote Dock and open it just leaving the logic board then you'll need to connect the 30 pin connector of your universal remote Logic board either directly to your ipad or to your ipad Dock with the ipad on it.

Hello Kiki, thank you for your reply.

I agree, just the extension cord will not work.

now I'm having some difficulty finding what you are talking about ( which 30 pin connector on my logic board?)

The RED arrow or the GREEN?

ANd how do I connect it to the iPad Dock? Via extension cord/solder onto logic board?

    hoping you have an answer...

    greets 123Djé

I tried connecting a Apple Universal Dock (model nr A1371) via an 30pin extension cord to an iPad3.

    -only the volume controls works.

you said you got it to work on an iPod???

I Since then bought a Bluetooth remote

      http://www.satechi.net/index.php/satechi-bluetooth-remote-control

-WHich works fine w/ iPad, but they work on 2 small batteries, which I presume will die fast.

    - Bluetooth connection needs to be reastablished from time to time

    - but the biggest drawback is that the buttons click to easily e.g. While in pocket and that doesn't come in handy while teaching dance classes, play pause play pause play :-S

IN all it feels a bit cheap and flimsy

    123djé,

Just connect the 30 pin male connector (red arrow) to the 30 pin female socket and the remote will work for your music, recently i tried with audiobooks and it works aswell, be sure to remove the beveled robber cushion so the 30 pin male connector (red arrow) fits all the way thru into the ipad.

You can use it this way or there is another, use the 30 pin male connector (red arrow) connected to the ipad Dock with your ipad on it, i prefer this last one because the Dock gets all the stress not the ipad

    Saludos
