I hope I'm not the only one incredibly frustrated by this new format. I composed a typically well-researched reply to a question only to have the pink-background text "there was an error with your submission. Please try again" unhelpfully appear again and again ad infinitum.

As if that weren't bad enough, whereas in the past Discussions would periodically, automatically save a copy of my reply as a "\draft, this new format doesn't appear to have such a feature, nor can I find a "save" option. So my well-researched and nicely formatted reply is gone.

Next, clicking on a message frequently causes a blank page to be rendered, and clicking Firefox's "back" button won't help since it also renders blank pages all the way back to my Apple Discussions login page. This may be due to this crummy Windows computer I'm using, but again this has never happened before.

Finally, IE8 causes the "do you want only the secure portion of this web page" or such nonsense on each and every page, to the point it's unusable (this has already been reported).

My apologies to those who are waiting for me to reply with help for their problems. They'll have to wait until I can return to my 11 year old iMac running Safari. I trust these new, improved, ultra-secure and needlessly bloated pages will load acceptably fast though.

That's a totally frustrating experience which many of us have had.

At the same time, the system is only a few days old, so certain maintenance/security chores and improvements need to happen suddenly (from our perspective).

A lot of people have mentioned the lack of draft and preview functions and their being needed enhancements to the new design. Until (and unless) they're implemented, I'd suggest that you compose any particularly well-researched and nicely formatted replies in a text editor and copy/paste your work into Reply fields here.

It's less trouble than it seems and is, in fact, a way of backing up your data, which is good practice in any context, really.

Just to add to your frustration, I can't really get it to work either.

I have tried on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Vista 32 bit with IE9, (which is a problem in itself).

I have managed to produce a fudge - at least to be able reply to a thread.

Right click on the thread heading and open in a new window. Then the reply buttons are mysteriously activated. Prehaps your problems are  more fundamental than this.

I am still trying to navigate over more than the first page when looking at recent threads. No doubt a solution will evolve, but no more than another fudge.

You may be able to see my entries under ribblev, if you can get that far. Perhaps someone will come up with a reliable "fix".

Have you installed iTunes 10.2.2 yet? You have to search for it - at least for today.

    Good Luck

    ribblev,

    Lancs U.K.

I have looked at your profile (something works in the support web pages).

You obviously have some considerable experience with iTunes etc.

I am just a retired engineer. I used computers at work for more than 15 years. Much easier than battling with iTunes.

Point taken:- you don't need iTunes for the Support discussions. In my case, I recently bought an iPod to replace an ageing PDA, which I used abroad at work for keeping records. The iPod touch is a slick device which can be adapted for use as a portable computer around the house. I could not buy an iPhone due to local reception problems and also my provider who deals with another manufacturer. Hence your mail was received instantly. IThe iPod is generally reliable, but has the occasional problem, and information must be backed up regularly.

Back to IE9.:- it's a little more versatile than IE8, if you can get to grips with it. It's a slow learning process.

Each time I open up the Apple Support discussion pages there seems to be an improvement. I now have an instant short cut to my own ongoing thread. It only appeared this evening.

Perhaps the new Apple discussion  pages were released before they were fully developed, (i'm just guessing) and features are being added. This would not be accepted in industry.

    Thanks, ribblev

Further to my rather  brief, non committal comment of yesterday, 19th April, I have found a post from "HuskyN" posted around 21.00 USA time, on 19th April.

He claims that the new Apple Support Community pages are just a stable preliminary version. He points to a link in his post.  If you look under HuskyN's "stuff" then you may be able to trace his sources.

Perhaps there may be a subtle difference in the American meaning of the word "stable".

    Hope that this helps.

I would imagine the testing was done primarily with Safari...not sure though.

    Hey John,

I've been using IE8 and had the problems you mentioned. I tried again and it seems like the updates they did last night have really improved the experience in IE. Are you noticing the same thing or is it just me?

I don't have IE on my machine (naturally), however I find that Firefox is working perfectly with this site.
