Q: LaserWriter 16/600 on Windows 7
Guide for setting up Apple LaserWriter printer on Windows 7.
First Open control panel.
select: Turn Window Features On or Off (under the PROGRAMS AND FEATURE HEADING)
Open the folder titled "Print and Document Services" and check the box labled LPR Port Monitor.
Manually install Apple Laserwriter: 8500, 16/600ps, 12/640ps, Color 12/600ps, or Color 12/660ps.
Print Driver as follows.
These printers support LPR printing. other's do not and won't work with this guide.
The Add Printer is not in admin context which will be required for these drivers.
Launch Add Driver instead
"printui /s /t2"
Add (add printer wizard opens)
Next
Select x86 for 32bit systems
Select x64 for 64bit systems
Next
Select Have Disk
Copy manufactures's files from:
replace the A:\ with the path to the printer drivers.
For 32bit systems use windows XP install disk i386 directory. Example "d:\i386"
for 64bit systems use Windows XP_64 or server 2003 install disk. Example "E:amd64"
Ok
Select Apple
Select Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS
Next
Finish
Close add printer wizard.
Now you can add the local printer using Add a Printer wizard.
open control panel and select view devices and printers.
next add printer. select local printer (not network printer)
select create a new Port: LPR Port.
Next
(you have to know the ip address of the print to proceed.) See end of guide.
Type in Name or address of server providing lpd: IP address of printer. Example "192.168.84.119"
Type in Name of printer or print queue on that server: Name your printer. Example "LaserWriter 16/600"
Next list of printer comes up, select have disk.
Copy manufacture's files from:
type in the path on your windows xp install disk to the i386 directory. Example "d:\i386"
Ok
Select Apple
Select Apple LaserWriter 16/600 PS
Next
Select Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended)
Next
Work through the rest of the wizard
Finish
