When you open a discussion on page "A", you should be returned to page "A" if you 'back' out of the discussion.
You can also use the string immediately under the "Welcome" legend on the left side of the page header; clicking the rightmost item (in this case, "Discussions") should return you to the page you left.
All that said, I find it more convenient to open discussions (= threads, = topics) in tabs in Safari. Once I'm done with the discussion (reading, adding a reply, etc.) I can just close the tab and I'm right back where I had been.
thank you. Getting used to the changes just takes time. I use both Firefox (my default) and Safari for my browsers so maybe I will use Safari for these discussions.
I tried going back to Discussions and and it seems to take me back to the main community rather than the category and hadn't even thought of just "backing" out of the discussion. Which I do on lots of other websites. So you have given me a couple of options and I do appreciate it.
Hi Laverne's Mom.
You can save a bookmark to the main Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard community which will get you back there any time you want.
As you know you can click Refine this view when you get there, but it is possible to create a custom link to the specific category you want to follow. There is a dcoument regarding custom RSS Feeds which lists the TagSetIDs of each category. The form of the custom link to a category is <address of community>?tagSet=<TagSetID of category>.
The address of the Snow Leopard community is https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.6_snow_leopard and the TagSetID of Time Machine is 1009 so putting it all togther the addess for the Time Machine category is:
To make things pretty we can stick the URL behing some text so that it is easier to use, i.e. just click Time Machine to take you there. You can copy that link just as it is if you want to refer to the category in other posts and bookmark the category so that you can get to it easily in the future.
Okay. Thank you. I bookmarked this in Firefox (I assume that was where you meant?) and then copied your link and changed the tag for "Using" OS X etc etc. then I can get to the topics if I want to just read through them without lots of clicking here and there. I didn't see where I could bookmark them in the forum, the same way you can bookmark a specific discussion. Which seems to replace somewhat the old subscriptions. I will definitely be needing a new bookmarks folder for these.
Maybe as the hosts tweek this format, some of the operation will get simpler. But I have no doubt that users will find work arounds too. A section of user tips on this would be great for the non technical folk like me. Just a suggestion. Not a complaint.
