Q: How do I make Motion run 64 bit?
How can I get Motion to utilize all it's available resources?
Is there a preference I missed or did I miss an upgrade for Motion? I'm running version 4.0.3
When I use Motion with my Activity Monitor running, I find that only one core is running at any given time which is a 25% CPU usage.
Activity Monitor also shows many other processes running in 64 bit mode but not Motion. I thought it was a 64 bit program.
I was also surprised to find Compressor only runs 25% CPU but QuickTime hits about 340% using all four CPU's doing the same tasks.
Am I missing something?
Thanks,
DH

Welcome to the discussions.
I'd say search, but with the new forums who knows?
First of all, Motion's cacheing process is 64 bit, so it can access all available memory. Next, Motion uses the GPU, not the CPU to do its processing, so you won't see it on the CPU usage meters.
Finally, Compressor - if rendering a .motn file - does the same thing. If not a .motn file, Compressor must be set up with QMaster to use multiple CPUs.
Here's an article to help you with that...
