You need to be Level 3 with at least 500 points to be able to use your own personalised avatar.

    ChangeAgent --

I think you probably had picked out an Avatar from Apple's collection found in your Preferences.

They are still available, plus some new ones.

Go up to "Your Stuff," and then click on "Profile."

You'll see your preferences there.  Look to the "Actions" box, on the upper right hand side.

You'll see "Change Avatar or Photo."

Click on that, and you'll see the entire list of avatars you can pick from.

    Hope this helps.

There was no option to have your "own" avatar in the AD boards.

It has just been made available again in this new iteration.

Prior to 2005, it was possible for some level users.

But from 2005 to three weeks ago here, it was not available.

Everyone had to choose from that selection.

This user has been a member since 2001, so it's possible they had a custom avatar in the Web Crossing days.

(I think you had to be Level 2 or 3 for that, though...)

May have been an L2 (or equivalent) at one point back then. As I recall, during one iteration of the AD design an account would gradually lose points if it went inactive (wasn't used for posting) long enough.

    Hi Tut!

so it's possible they had a custom avatar in the Web Crossing days.

Kinda like you and I did?

And then they took ALL custom avatars away with Jive.

Wasn't that late 2005?  or was it later?

It was level 3 because after I got to level three and before I could design one they all disappeared.

11 November 2005? Or was it 14 November 2005? November 2005 at any rate.

    It was both!

AD went off-line on the 11th and came back online on the 14th (with you as newly minted L4 )

Debbie, Buegie and I were all rather startled about the sudden promotions. No warning at all in advance for us that time that points and level criteria were going to be recalibrated for the new software.

It must have been a bit startling for the level 4s who found themselves level 5s under the new regime, too. I think it was five sudden level 5s? Don Archibald, Henry B, Dave Sawyer, Duane and Douglas MacLaughlin?

Hey, Doug's alias is finally displaying correctly too, without the "..." instead of the "lin".
