There are also third-party apps that do a decent job connecting to printers unsupported by AirPrint. some swear by Printopia, but since I have an older HP printer I use HP's iPrint. Works flawlessly.
Just search the App Store for "printing."

Yeah Printopia works great but it's over priced. Apple should have included this functionality with OS X in the first place.

I have a Brother HL-2170W and I istalled it to the Router through wireless for use with different computers in the house. I downloaded the free Brother Apps to my Ipad (Vintage) , when I opened the Printer Apps and click find printer it searched and disovered the printer and next open a page from the note and test printed. No third party apps required.
Hope this will answer the query.

I have print n share and it works well. Others recommend Print Central.
You can also do some searching on your printer manufacturer's site. Many of them have their own work arounds for wireless printing.
