Q: QMaster only showing 1 instance for i5 macbook pro

QMaster is only showing 1 instance for core i5 macbook pro. This is a dual core i5.

So still, I can only use one core. It only shows 50% of the preocessor being used and 50% is Idle in Activity monitor.

Long render times. Like 18 hours of render for 90 minutes of video 720 HD in Compressor.

So when I press "Share" for Compressor in QMater the "Options for Selected Service" is greyed out and only set to 1 instance.

Thanks

Sorry...one instance per TWO processors.  So that's the best you can do.  Laptops currently are not the best option for compressing large amounts of data.  Towers win again.

Only 50% of computer resources are beeing used. Either that's Fiinal Cut sucking or I just can't access that second core. My Windows laptiop is a core 2 duo and takes half the time. Similar graphics card and ram.

FCP doesn't utilize multiple cores.  Not the current one anyway. Never has. COMPRESSOR and SHAKE can.

But...I'm confused.  Your windows machine takes half the time doing what?  Rendering from FCP?  FCP doesn't run on windows.  Nor does Compressor.  So what are you saying takes half the time?  To compare you must use two of the exact same situations/

OK so back to Compressor. I am using Compressor and it is only USING 50% of the computer according to my Activity Monitor. Any thoughts?

When I look at my Windows computer it has a duel core system as well and uses 98% of the the processor according to its' monitor.

If you can't think of anything, that's cool, but just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue. Just wanting to chit chat. I don't really think I need to get a hulk deskop computer when Apple advertises that I can upgrade to a Quadcore (8 virtual core) macbook pro and be fine with that. Although I am using just the i5 duel core right now.

Your windows machine uses 98% doing WHAT?  Something designed to use all the cores?  Because Compressor is designed to use multiple cores, but only if you have more than two.  Now.  In June a new version is coming and it will utilize more. But currently...only if you have more than two.

Got it, thanks. So Compressor doesn't even recognize virtual cores. Bah I will juist upgrade to the quad core i7. That first i5 was just a teaser.

    Thanks again.
