Since mBox Mail (and specifically mBox Mail for Mac and not the mBox Mail for iOS version, I will assume) appears to be a commercial applocation, you will want to ask the vendor about this. They might know of a problem or issue here.
I don't run Hotmail, but I do debug mail clients, and there are all sorts of weirdnesses that can arise with mail servers, firewalls, and mail clients and mail client settings.

Thank you, Mr Hoffman,
Yes, you're right, it's mBox mail for Mac I was talking about.
I also sent them an e-mail regarding the issue, I hope they'll get back to me quickly as this is rather annoying.
The thing is, however, I am not sure it's an mBox issue, as with Outlook 2011 it sort of seems to work. At least better than with Mail...
Thank you again!

Apparently, FluentFactory, the company that produce mBox Mail, aren't very keen on answering e-mails or support tickets. To this day I haven't heard anything from them.
So today I sent them another e-mail, asking for a solution to the problem. I hope they'll reply this time, as this situation is driving me mad. I don't really see a use for a programme that doesn't do what it's supposed to do. Kind of like HP who produce computers that don't compute
I'll let you know, tramac and others interested, if I hear back from FluentFactory.

Did you ever hear from FluentFactory about this issue? The only way I found around it is to close and re-open Mail... obviously not a practical solution!!!

God, I had already forgotten this thread! Deepest apologies!
If I remember correctly, they did eventually reply and I got a full refund for the product. Didn't solve the Hotmail syncing issue though, so I moved to MobileMe (which has since become iCloud).
