May 10, 2011 6:08 AM in response to yaarpanjabiby Studio X,You've given us the sequence codec. What format is the material?
Where did it come from - what camera and how was it converted?

May 10, 2011 6:11 AM in response to Studio Xby yaarpanjabi,My apologies.
The format of the material is Prores 422. It's come from a 7D. Converted with MPEG streamclip.

Servers EnterpriseAre you doing a single pass encode or multi pass? I've experienced severe problems with a single-pass encode.

May 10, 2011 6:23 AM in response to yaarpanjabiby Tom Wolsky,Are both images in the QT player? Is it set to high quality playback? Why is there letterboxing on the HD media?

May 10, 2011 6:25 AM in response to yaarpanjabiby yaarpanjabi,Just figured it out. In the sequence settings, under the Render Control tab, the resolution setting was 25%. Export is now working fine!
Thank you guys for your assistance. Tom, the bars are there for the 'film look'.

May 10, 2011 6:26 AM in response to yaarpanjabiby mishmumken,.... and in addition to Tom's questions: did you export using QT conversion? If so you might want to try exporting a QT movie with your sequence settings and running that through Compressor.

May 10, 2011 6:28 AM in response to yaarpanjabiby thrillcat editorial,A) If you are working with material that is ProRes, work on a ProRes sequence, not HDV. ProRes was invented so people didn't have to work in garbage formats like HDV.
B) Letterbox bars do not give the film look. Work on a native 16x9 sequence with your 16x9 media. Players will add the letterbox if needed. Adding the letterbox bars gives the "rookie look".

May 10, 2011 6:32 AM in response to mishmumkenby yaarpanjabi,Mish. Originally tried converting both QT conversion and QT movie, but the result was identical in terms of pixelation. After changing the render settings, I exported using QT movie.
thrillcat: Thank you for the tip, will be sure to use that. I'm still quite confused with the sequence settings menu though, I don't really understand what the different formats are for. You see, I'm probably not even at the rookie stage yet!
Cheers.

May 10, 2011 6:36 AM in response to yaarpanjabiby thrillcat editorial,Sequence settings should ALWAYS match your footage. Or the majority of your footage, if you must use different formats (though I recommend converting everything to a matching format for post).
In fact....I would suggest you create a new sequence, drop ONE of your clips into that sequence. FCP will tell you it wants to change the sequence settings to match your clip. Click OK and let it create the correct sequence for you. Now get rid of that single clip, copy all the media from your previous timeline and paste it into your new sequence. Make sure all your clip sizings transferred correct, and use this as your new master sequence.
You will be happier in the long run. Probably even the short run.

May 10, 2011 12:19 PM in response to yaarpanjabiby smillerlou,Hi Yaarpanjabi,
I've been having the same problem (I have a 7D and use ProRes422 as well) ever since I bought my iMac last June and I was ready to throw it out the window. I'm at work right now so I don't have access to my mac but wanted to ask you a few questions about how you export.
When you export your movie do you go to File Export->Quicktime Movie or Quicktime Conversion. I've tried both and I get pretty horrible results either way.
When your render control resolution setting is at 25% does that mean when you Export the file it is not exporting it at the full resolution? I'm praying that mine is set at 25% too so I can turn it to 100% when I get home. Why wouldn't the default be 100%??
Anyways any info on the process of how you export would be appreciated.
