Replying to myself.
I resolved the issue by manually removing every danged file I could find that had anything to do with Xerox. This included a number of xrx files buried in invisible folders which I found using "Find Any File". I have reinstalled the older driver and the client is back up and running.
Sure wish the Xerox drivers worked for my Mac folks as well as they do for my Windows users. I hate having to say that.

I'm afraid I don't recall where I got the older driver or which version it was.
I've been using the newer Universal Xerox Driver (2.32.0). I see that an even newer driver for the 7435 came out a few weeks ago, however, and I haven't tried that one yet.
