I rely on my Verzon iPhone 4 tethering / personal hotspot quite a bit. The problem is the blue indicator stripe at the top of the screen. It's very nice to know that it's on, but it moves application data down by the height of the indicator strip - which is a problem becuase not *all* of the application drops down. (see attached pictures for an example in AccuFuel -- basically half the data gets bumped down, but the main screen visuals don't, making the result a mess).

I'd suggest either of the following:

1. Allow the end-user to switch off the indicator bar.The switch could be put on the Personal Hotspot configuration screen. Pros: ensures compatibility with all apps. Cons: complicates user experience by providing a configuration option; complicates support scenarios by creating multiple configuration settings to be supoorted.

2. Disable the personal hotspot indicator strip entirely. The main phone status bar is blue, providing a handy visual indicator. Pros: Simpler to support and simpler for end-user experience. Cons: Relatively major change, may upset existing customer expectations. Phone status bar may not appear in full-screen apps (Angry Brids, for example) although currently indicator band does not appear in full-screen apps.

3. Rely only on 'chain' icon in menu bar. Pros: Simple, clean, easy. Cons: adds icon to status bar, which is precious visual real-estate.
