May 15, 2011 4:36 AM in response to Dasiyby Sleepy_Gonzales,Wow. My iPad stopped working inexplicably yesterday at what was 40% battery life. Wouldn't charge, wouldn't sync, totally black screen. Somehow, the size of it makes it more disturbing. With my iTouch I would have gone for the Power button and Home button option automatically, but just didn't occur to me this time until I saw this thread.
All I could think was: "Typical the darn thing lasts 2 weeks longer than 1 year! There goes my guarantee.."
Holding down the two buttons took more like 14 seconds to work but I have my iPad back... albeit it was on very low power and needed an immediate re-charge.
Amazing how many others have posted the same problem, and that this thread has over 10k views! Sounds like a much wider problem than Apple may want to admit to...

May 15, 2011 5:03 AM in response to Sleepy_Gonzalesby Demo,Not sure why I'm bother to reply to this, but your statement about Apple not wanting to admit to this problem is not true because they devote a support site for what you should do if your iPad becomes unresponsive. Apple knows this can happen, that's why they have a support page for it.
The 10K people that viewed this thread obviously don't know how to do a Google search like this ....
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
Apple doesn't claim their devices are perfect or they would not offer support for issues that may arise. BTW it took me about five seconds to find that support site. Problem with most people is they run to this site without looking on their own for a solution.

Jul 8, 2011 6:34 PM in response to Demoby earthener, thanx folks - i nearly had a heart attack when my IPad wouldn't turn on this morning - made me think about how lazy i have been with respect to making sure I had a backup of all the important items i have stored on it. It hasnt missed a beat since I purchased it over a year ago and it is such a great product / tool that the last thing I have been thinking about is it failing - but like everything (including us humans) - it does.
btw - I found this site on my first go by typing in 'my iPad wont turn on' and it was great to see that it was an Apple site that responded at the top of the list. (and I don't work for Apple)

You may be surprised to know that absolutely no one who contributes to this site, works for Apple. We are all users. Some are here because they have an issue and need help, and some are here to help people with their issues.

Jul 20, 2011 4:59 AM in response to Dasiyby cecispice,Same thing happened to me. Was reading a news app and iPad went blank. It had more than 50% battery but still tried to charge it. It still wouldn't come on. Connected it to the computer and nothing. Computer didn't even recognize it. Tried holding the home screen button and the on/off button for almost 30 seconds before it actually came on but it worked. Yay. Thanks.

Nov 12, 2011 9:24 AM in response to Dasiyby John Flannery,I'm glad that you guys and gals talked about this very subject because like many of you, i was looking at my ipad went for a run and when i came back the screen was blank. i tried various things including the simul-two-step but not long enough. the 10 second rule is the key. sorry for those who went before but thanks for sharing the solution. you don't realize how much you appreciate this sliver of silicon and apps until it seems to evaporate before your eyes. ite in pace. john flannery

Nov 12, 2011 12:14 PM in response to Dasiyby Miguelucho,I had a semilar problem. When I turned on the Ipad, it would briefly show the apple logo and then go into a semi-black screen and it would not let me do anything else. It had the latest OS and I even reset the Ipad with no success. I also tried the 10 second rule with no success. It lasted for almost a week, so I took it to the apple store. As soon as the technician touch it, it started working ... great... the technician did something that I haven't seen posted anywhere ... he told me that sometimes many programs are running at the same time and these programs need to be closed. So he double clicked the Home buttom and at the bottom many applications were active. He told me all these applications were running and taking memory and sometimes an application conflicts with another one. So, if you are having a blank screen, try to double click the home screen and eliminate running programs and hopefully it helps.
