Virus?  Bad pop ups?

How do I stop inappropriate websites (and MacProtector alerts) from popping up.  Just started today.  Do I have virus?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8), How to protect in future?

    Sorry, I'm not a technofile. I just wanted to get rid of something I thought may screw up my computer. I didn't use the correct words, I'm sorry. I did not infuriate anyone. I will not be using this site again unless I consider it a real emergency.

    I'm sorry that my telling the OP - who does not seem to be you unless you are posting from two accounts - that s/he does not have a virus and that they would benefit from reading the very informative website of one of our own who has spent a lot of his time researching this trojan, seems to have upset you.
