You can't but here's a hack that might help:

1 - open the library like this in the Finder.

2 - in the Database folder move this file to the Trash: Faces.db.

3 - close the package/folder and launch iPhoto.  Close it after a moment.

4 -  open the package, find the new version of the file and lock it via the Info window for the file.

5 - while viewing the contents of the package type Command+F to start a search.

6 - set the criteria of the search to:  Kind is Image and Name Contains "face".

7 - select all of the files in the search results window and drag to the Trash.

8 -close the package and launch iPhoto.

You will get the faces spinning wheel as it tries to index the library the first time it's opened but it won't be able to write to the database file if you should try to add a face and won't create any new jpeg faces files. Of course make a backup of your library before trying this and no guarantee implied.

This is ridiculous. I can't find my photos anymore, just giant faces i could care less about because I took some photos during a parade.

Evidently, the discussion board answered my question.  I understand there is no way to turn off face recognition in I Photo?

What is your problem, Terence?  Just let people vent if they wish.  Not every comment has to contain a question.

By the way, thanks Old Toad for the tip.

    You're welcome.

Just let people vent if they wish.

Because it's prohibited by the Terms of Use and we get enough whiners. We have better things to do than cull thru them to find those who are looking for help.

Without the TOU it would be full of them like the iWeb and MobileMe communities are not.  It's not being enforced there right now because Apple hasn't offered its final word on the final disposition of web hosting and MMe galleries.  Once they do I suspect those communities will be culled of the non "help" posts.

PoP up (s) in faces and gps is annoying, any way for apple to stop this or give us option to use or not use?

There's no way to turn off Faces entirely.  You can disable it to some degree so that face photos will not be produced and saved.  iPhoto will still scan for faces but not create any mini face image files.  Here's how:

Old Toad

Thanks for OT's Missing Manual on FACES. I don't like FACES either, but I am not venting. I go to the MobileMe forum for that.

I have a work around. I avoid shots with people in them. If I have to have people, I shoot them from the neck down or from the back.

I am very disappointed with Faces. How come it doesn't show you the persons phone and credit card records like on the crime TV shows?

That is no guarantee that Faces won't pop up and bite you you know where.

I've taken pictures of the "Three Servicemen Statue" at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in DC

... unfortunately iPhoto Faces is still looking for a match. And they're all over President Lincoln! I think Apple should rename it "iPhoto Facepalm":

The act of dropping one's face / forehead into one's hand. Usually accompanied by D'oh!!!
