My Moshi mini display port to hdmi adapter doesn't work with my new MacBook Pro 13" Model i7 (Early 2011 / Thunderbolt)   the laptop just seems to not see it at all.

This same adapter was working great with my last laptop.   MacBook Pro 13" Model  (Early 2010)  (video and audio)

I will keep researching this elsewhere also.

The apple mini displayto RGB adapter works on the new laptop

Any Ideas

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

Yes. i had written about that a few days ago.

Not minidp > HDMI adaptors work the same.

i had to return one because it would only work with the macbook air 2010. but not the 2011 thunderbolt.

I went to the apple store they sold me a belkin which works with the thunderbolt (audio as well, i tested it).

return your adaptor and get one that works with T.bolt.

Apple will never admit this, but the mini display port is defective.  The problem exists between the mini displayport plug on your machine, and the graphics cards that come standard in the Apple machines and some graphics cards they use.

It is not mini-displayport is not displayport complient, and there's an issue with how it sends the signal.  You'll get the problem with several mini-displayport adapters and cables.

Basically, is any of the following are true:

    1. Host computer is unable to power on.

    2. Host computer is unable to correctly enter sleep modes.

    3. Host computer is unable to correctly resume from sleep modes.

    4. Display is unable to be turned on or display video correctly.

    5. Incorrect display resolution or corrupted video is shown.

    Cause:

Certain Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables available in the market were incorrectly

manufactured and do not adhere to the DisplayPort design specification. This defect can cause

the above symptoms to appear. The defective cables may be marked or sold as "DisplayPort

certified" and contain the DisplayPort logo.

I'd be happy to post where the original information came from, but it was discovered by a non-apple manufacturer of monitors, and if I post anything non Apple on here, this post will be deleted by Apple.  Then again, they will probably delete this post anyways, because it points out a major issue that they are either trying to hide, or simply ignoring.

i have a belkin minidisplay to hdmi and am VERY disappointed in the quality of which it is... it only lasted about 4-5 months, with babying it, and because apple or belkin are stupid enough to package it in a U instead of straight it no longer works... i want aple to refund my money fully for it as this product is absolute bull...again disappointed with apple...

    aaronformoakland-

You are being WAY too paranoid.

Non-Apple links get posted here all the time. Apple only removes stuff that violates the termsofuse, not divergent opinions.

Apple makes no promise of reading these forums, and never responds here.

Belkin products carry a long warranty. That is why users are willing to pay a premium price for them. I suggest you contact the manufacturer for a replacement.

    Same here.

I have a problem connecting external display (Dell U2311H) to my 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011).

I use Tecklink Mini DasplayPort to HDMI adapter (http://www.techlink.uk.com/products/wires_cables/wiresmedia/wiresmedia_media/wir esmedia_mini_displayport_plug_to_hdmi_plug), but since U2311H doesn't have HDMI input, I also use Manhattan DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (http://www.manhattan-products.com/en-US/products/8101-displayport-adapter).

    And nothing.

The display is not detected, no picture or even external monitor presence at all.

I even reset PRAM, and installed 10.8.2 Supplementary update.

I also plugged and unplugged all I could, with no luck.

As I can see on Apple discussion, it is a common problem with 2011 MacBook Pro's.

It seems like the problem is in Thundebolt port, it somehow does not work properly.

Make certain that any adapter or cable you use is inserted completely into the jack. Push hard until essentially ALL of the metal end is inside the jack.

Don't see it mentioned thus far. Make sure the HDMI end device has the port active.

When I plug in my MBP to a Hitachi TV/monitor via a Techlinks TB to HDMI direct cable/adapter, if the Hitachi is not set to HDMI in its input menu, the Mac will NOT detect it and will not work, image and sound-wise. As understand it, the HDMI operation is bidirectional and involves complex handshaking and negotiation between both ends.

    It's all there.

I set up all connections properly, switched monitor to output throughout proper port.

    But nothing happens.

    Only black screen.

In reply to my own post have to say appologies to Apple whose Thunderbold port I used to blame.

    Shame on me)

    So, what was my problem?

    Guess what?

Manhattan DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter !

The point is it's actually do only what it said to do, converts DP to HDMI.

But I for some reason thought it can be used vice versa, to be HDMI to DP converter))

    I was wrong.

I bought new one HDMI to DVI adapter and now I HAVE external display!

    Thunderbolt works like a charm.

    So I'm very satisfied now.
