After I posted this, I discovered another thread in the "Using iPad" discussion forum that would have been more appropriate: iPad 2 Shipping.
But to your question, clearly many people who are posting and reading in this Apple Support Community are interested in others' experiences with the iPad2 backorder situation. The thread I cited was started five days ago, and already it has 3,698 messages and nearly half a million views!
Not everything here is a TECH support question. As I understand it, it's about users helping users, and that goes beyond TECH questions.
I believe that posting my experience with MacMall is a service to this community.
