Only the panel was changed, because it had dark marks on the left side.

May 18, 2011 3:22 AM in response to DanRybby El Presidente,Well what do you know...i just got a call from the rep who has been handling my case and they've cancelled giving me an extension cable and will instead replace my display outright with a 27" model. On one hand i'm elated but on the other hand...TOO BIG.
I wonder how i'll fit it on my smallish desk or more importantly if it'll solve the issue.

May 18, 2011 2:38 PM in response to DanRybby mwsmith26,I believe I'm seeing the same problem as discussed here. I have a 24" Cinema Display purchased last year and it worked fine with my older MBP 15". No problems.
I just purchased a new early 2011 MBP 17", and it works fine when using the laptop screen. But after connecting it to the 24" display, I now see brief and frequent flashes of a black screen at what appears to be at random intervals. It might work without issue for an hour, then flash to black every 5 seconds for a few times. Then in 15 seconds, then no problem for a while. It is verydisruptive.
I tried the MBP firmware patch recently released and it did not resolve the issue. I'm running the latest version of the OS with all patches current.
I have to believe this has something to do with the Thunderbolt port now delivering the display signal. It must be dropping the video signal periodically, losing synch or something. I don't have anything thing else connected to the Thurderbolt port (as if there was anything else to connect...).
I'm hoping Apple fixes this in a firmware release soon. Otherwise, I'm going to scrap this configuration one way or another.

May 18, 2011 4:30 PM in response to tinbieby dpedpe,I have the same problem. A year old 24" ACD with a 15" 2011 MBP purchased in Feb. I called AppleCare and they had me bring the monitor in to replace the all-in-one cable. Based on others experiences, I don't expect this to work, but I have my fingers crossed. The next step if it doesn't work will be to insist upon a swap out for the 27" ACD.

May 19, 2011 9:36 AM in response to DanRybby loyalwhite,I have the same problem - brand new 17" MacBook Pro with 18 month old 24" Cinema Display. I just spoke to Applecare who said that the problem is caused by Thunderbolt sending out too much power for the graphics card in the ACD to handle. They assured me that the problem absolutely is fixable in software, and that Apple are working on a Firmware update to fix, though they offered no timeframe within which that would be released.

May 19, 2011 12:56 PM in response to dpedpeby dpedpe,Sadly, replacing the logic board and all-in-one cable didn't solve the problem.

May 19, 2011 1:03 PM in response to loyalwhiteby mwsmith26,That's great news that they understand the issue and are committed to resolving it. Thanks for the info.

May 19, 2011 1:21 PM in response to loyalwhiteby mgadda,I also received a very similarly reassuring response from Applecare. They acknowledged that it was real issue that they're absolutely working on and expect to roll out a firmware update either by itself or as part of a combo pack update.

May 19, 2011 1:31 PM in response to dpedpeby dpedpe,I just received the same answer from Applecare - that this is now a known issue that is being worked on. Unfortunately, there is no ETA on the update.

May 20, 2011 10:37 AM in response to DanRybby Brooks Bergreen,15inch 2011 2.2. seeing some flickering as well, i would say every 5 mins or so. Ive only had mine a week now, so far no black screens, except when I first plugged it in there seemed to be an issue.
-
May 20, 2011 12:54 PM in response to Brooks Bergreenby TechArea,I've also a customer with the same issue!
When i connect a MBP 15" mid 2009... no issue...
But if i connect his new MBP 17" early 2011, the screen is flickering very often!
Steve Cano would say: It's a realy uncool issue! Or: How uncool is that?!
