Q: 4.3 Flicker Problem

My ATV2 had been working great until I installed 4.3 today. Now every couple of second there is a very annoying flicker on the screen. I have a 1080i TV. Any suggestions? Any way to go back to 4.2?

Do Sony think that a firmware update will help? Now that we've spent time on this version business, I realise I forgot to ask how that happened. Was it their suggestion? Are they aware of this problem with Apple TVs?

I have now TM Version 4.11 on my Sony TV but it didn't help. After first reboot of my ATV problem still persists.

I also tried my ATV2 with Panasonic Led-tv and also different model Sony TV (newest model, can't remember what) and there was not any flicker problems at all. So problem is only with my W4000 -series TV.

One more thing. When I tried Panasonic TV, it said on first boot that signal is 720p 60Hz and after ATV reboot signal was 720p 50Hz. So it seems like my Sony does not understand 50Hz signal that ATV gives. My Sony TV works perfect with this 60Hz I think.

It seems I figured out what is the problem. I removed "full pixel" from my tv-settings and it does not flicker anymore. So it seems like ATV is not working on 50Hz mode when full pixel is enabled on Sony xW4000 TV. It works ok after first boot (for some reason ATV is then at 60Hz mode) but when ATV is waken from sleep it gives 50Hz signal and it does not work with overscan.

You can have different "full pixel" settings on every HDMI-input on Sony TV.

I hope that will be fixed some day 'cause I don't want to watch cropped picture.

    Hi all,

Don't know if it helps some of you, but on my Samsung 55'' 3DLED series 7, by switching "Game Mode" to ON, it eliminates the annoying flickering.

    Regards

@Huppe - it's not the TV misunderstanding the ATV, it's the ATV not hand-shaking properly with the TV. I have 2 other devices which run at 720P 60Hz perfectly well. As you say, ATV runs at 720P 60Hz at boot, it's only when it reads the EDID for various TVs that the ATV2 fails.

This thread has a good list of various TVs which ATV2 doesn't support properly, and it's definitey a problem on ATV2:
