but the problem is a broken pipe . it 'possible that Somers files of you libairy was corrupt , or the database of your iTunes is not correct.
I have see files which ( exist on the computer) but they are visible by home sharing of the orner computer.
If the file don t exist, AppleTv broken the home sharing.
in old version , you have error message.
I have realise an operation to réorganisation by ITunes. I cannot consolidate the librairy because the files are stored on extern network server (samba on redhat , and networkSpace )
if your file are in organised like iTunes like. the read must be Moreau efficient.
I hope that coule be a solution to reduce the load on the computer, and the networkImac, Other OS, Linux Aix Solaris Window server XP

Well fellows I am not going to add anything here from what everyone has already stated since Feb 2011- I do want to though share my frustration with this -
Been reading all the threads here and many others on the web and seriously from my point of you everyone so far has done this:
- home sharing debacle
- apple I'd resetting
- iTunes library reset
- routers resetting (I even googleed Optimizing Routers for iTUnes!)
- wifi and cable networked
- here is my 2 cents : tried creating a network on my mac mini so the atv2 would solidify it's relationship - but no dice - connectivity lasts longer
- bridging between the source media and atv2
I think that about sums it all up - Apple please please do not prolonged this now! There a zillion posts on this issue since December 2010 - it's time to fix whatever on ATV2!
Thanks everyone help and sharing of ideas

just a quick update here to confirm my theory about this being a result of poor next gen production qulaity -- i went back to my old 1st gen ATV (40 GB) and it works far better than this!) of course u get 1080p as well -- ironically another friend of mine is having the exact reverse of this problem! Old ATV dead but the black one works fine!

"your computer needs to be on with iTunes running for the appleTV to see it?"
Before I had my ATV2, I had a WD Live Media device. It would send a magic packet to Wake On LAN the computer that has all the video and songs. Are you saying that Apple does not support this industry standard feature?

Just to add a data point: I, too am having dropped Home Sharing connections. Symptom is my computer still shows in the menu, but has no content. If I left the AppleTV in a menu of content on the computer, it will still be there and any attempt to play will display an error that the content is in incorrect format. (Shoddy error handling, that.) Workaround is to use the Settings->Computers menu to toggle Home Sharing on and off.
I've two 2nd-gen (little black box) AppleTVs. One used not to have this problem but has recently developed it. A now-decomissioned 1st-gen AppleTV (with 2.x software) had no issues.
Network is 802.11n from a Time Capsule, the computer in question is an early-2011 iMac. The only other devices in regular use on this network are two iPad 2s, two iPhone 4s, one iPhone 3G, a unibody (pre-Pro) 13" MacBook, a recent MBA 11", and a Withings weight scale. The latter has been added since this problem surfaced, and I've taken everything else (game consoles) off the network in an attempt to diagnose.
So it's pretty much all Apple, all recent, and it still doesn't "just work". SIgh.
There are no other network issues noticeable, and the iMac does little but run iTunes. As long as a given AppleTV is busy, it stays connected… so I never get to watch it drop one.
Next step will be running Ethernet from the iMac to the Time Capsule, but I'm inclined to blame the AppleTVs since they don't seem to lose their connections simultaneously.
Here's hoping a future OS update makes these things smarter about reconnecting!

I FIXED MY non-streaming PHOTOS issue w the Apple TV (the new black one that has Netflicks)
this is for my home share...(not the icloud streaming thing u can do - that is not this)
1. go to your ITunes
2. click on Advanced tab
here you "choose photos to share"
when this opens you can "select ALL photos" OR choose abbums/events etc
3. hit "APPLY" in lower right and this fixed my issue of only a small amount of my Photo Library showing up.
- everything has been working on the Apple TV but this btw (netflicks / iTunes music library). It was immediately fixed. Just make sure your 'HOME SHARING" is connected and on (you can do this by just turning on the Apple TV and stream your music...
hope this helps anyone
