When an app is purchased/downloaded from the store it is associated to an Apple ID. Whenever an update is available for that app the authentication details for that Apple ID are required.

You can get this problem if you share an iTunes library with someone but have different Apple IDs, as there can only be one copy of an app in the library. It can also occur for other reasons.

What you need to do is delete the app and repurchase/redownload it from the App Store with the correct Apple ID.

I am having the same problem... in my settings, my "store" ID says one things, and when I go to the App Sotre application to update, another apple ID is there, and I cannot get rid of it.

Have you tried deleting the app and redownloading it with the Apple ID you want associated with it?

Based on your name here it sounds like you could be sharing an iTunes library with someone (sean and nikki). You can only have one copy of an app in an iTunes library. If you both sync to the same iTunes library and you both have an Apple ID you use for downloading/purchasing apps you are going to get apps that when you update will require the other person's Apple ID. The only way around it is to have separate iTunes libraries. It's easier to just live with your partner's Apple ID on some apps.

    In iTunes on the iPad...

Tap Featured at the bottom of the screen.

Scroll to the bottom and tap the account name then Sign out.

Tap Sign in and use the account you want.

    Then tap Updates.

I had the same problem on my iPhone - different Apple id than in my iTunes account and wasn't able to purchase apps using my phone.  I figured it out on my own - what you need to do is open the App Store on your iPhone. When the 'Categories' page comes up, scroll all the way down and tap on 'Apple ID' at the bottom of the screen. Then tap on 'View Apple ID' and then 'Edit'.  You can then delete the old ID and put your correct one in.  Hope this helps - it worked for me.

HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. Made an error on my apple id so i cant update. All you need to do is type in the wrong passcode until you are prompted for a security question or the option of reseting your password. I chose the security option and editted my passcode to match the one i us. ( couldnt change apple id through) hope it works for u :).

None of these "solutions" address the problem and none of them fix them problem. The only reason I have 2 apple IDs is poor planning by Apple. Mobile Me users were assigned a me.com ID, despite the fact that I already had an Apple ID. Now the me.com ID has followed me to iCloud and I can't get rid of it. When I set up iCloud I attepted to use my original Apple ID but was disallowed due to it "already being in use"...by me of course, but no matter. Now I am stuck with 2 IDs. Apple has confirmed this.

To update apps, you must sign in with the original ID or repurchase it. Why would I do this? I purchased it using my ID and used it on only one device. To sync everything though I must use my me.com ID. (Remember-it can't be changed to your original ID) If you sign in with the me.com ID your account shows that you have made no purchases and therefore you have nothing to update. If you try to install the app using the new ID it tries to charge you money again. And of course you constantly have sync issues because your phone and your computer are signed in using separate Apple IDs.

Nice going Apple. Way to simplify my life.
