This is really all based on speculation. MobileMe will be around for another year. iCloud will roll out this fall. If Apple learned anything, iCloud will prove more flexible and useful than many are initially assuming. If webhosting does become impossible, we will all have approximately 9 months to find other solutions. Given the popularity of iWeb/MobileMe, it wouldn't surprise me if at least one enterprising soul came up with an easy migration option. "Don't panic."
"All my life I've had this strange feeling that there's something big and sinister going on in the world."
"No, that's perfectly normal paranoia. Everyone in the universe gets that."
Given Apple's push into the cloud, it's too bad iWeb hasn't been reminagined by now. Can you imagine a more Facebook-like Twitter-like Ping-enhanced social network with the personalization of a new and improved iWeb? I can.

You can make a whole website and blog using wordpress.com if you like. WordPress.com is published to the WordPress servers, but you can add your own domain name to it if you like.
Or as OT suggested, create a blog with WordPress, Blogger or Weebly and embed it in your own website so people do not have to leave your site to view it.

iWeb and iDVD are included in iLife 11. But since they were not updated with this release they were put on the back burner and only mentioned in small print on the box and documentation.
That's not to say iWeb won't be dropped along with iDVD as some time. We need to send feedback to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html and Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/idvd.html requesting they keep and improve those two apps. Also send to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/mobileme.html requests to keep some type of web site hosting and MMe galleries.

I'd like to think idisk and hosting would be continued as I've used it since the beginning.
I can't think of a reason for Apple extending those features for a limited time other than giving us
a chance to find other means.
Certainly has been a great convilence to me and many others.
To not even make mention of it is and leave everyone scratching their heads is really inexcusable.
I"ve been a Apple user since Apple II.
I'm very disappointed.
I'll be plesantly surprised if I'm wrong, but it certainly appears the handwritting is on the wall.

Indeed I hope every iWeb user out there will submit feedback to Apple, and even more that Apple will notice our feedback and act accordingly. As all of you I hope Apple will continue to support iWeb, enhance it further and what not. Hopefully the extra functionality added (like search and comments) by having a MobileMe account won't be lost when MobileMe is discontinued.
And since iWeb is no longer an official part of iLife, perhaps Apple will surprise us users with a worthy 'stand alone' version of iWeb.. perhaps, hopefully.
If not, I hope Apple has the decency to let us know sometime soon so we can work on finding a proper alternative - if there are any.

iweb installer is part of the ilife 11 DVD which you can buy in every store. Also a major big update for iweb in that box is available for downloat at Apple Support and via Software update as well. So "unsupported" is nonsense.
The thing is that you are now limited in where you can publish the sites, MobileMe sites are a no-go now. You need to find a provider that supports iweb, that's all. And there are such ones. Only to name one ( no advertising here ) , the maker of the great iweb SEO tool offers webhosting with support for every iweb feature of course.

Before you post things, please make sure that they are factually correct first.
iDisk is part of MobileMe and does not have anything to do with the OS you are using, it is separate to the Operating System.

That is exactly right. Not making clear what's happening with the Web hosting services they provide, and keeping secret what's happening with iWeb, which is after all a development tool, is simply not fair to customers.

Just because they are getting rid of MobileMe does not mean that you cannot still use iWeb. iWeb is an application and is not dependant upon MobileMe at all.
The iWeb app will still work and you can publish and upload to just about any server you like.

If Lion is not going to be distributed on DVDs, then why believe that anything else will be?
Extrapolating the no DVD idea > will CD/DVD players/burners disappear as standard features in Mac Computers ?
