Q: How to restrict website access to only a few sites? (Parental controls)

How can I restrict website access to only a select number of sites?

I am aware of "Kiosk" programs which allow this feature, but the restrictions here can be switched off in the settings menu.

On the other hand, parental control software allows blocking of certain websites, but one cannot create a "white list" of allowed websites.

On the iPad itself, you don't.

If the iPad is wifi only and used at your house you can investigate opendns for you router or a tool such as net nanny

Ok. Is there a way to restrict access or password protect the settings menu?

    >Settings >General > Restrictions  allows you to restrict a few things but not near enough.

I wish the whole Settings App could be restricted with a password.  My son has been able to make our Ipad nonfunctional by messing with the Settings.  A Restore from iTunes fixed it but I am constantly fixing the iPad because he messes with the settings.

These devices are recommended by many for Kids Education and Games but to it seems Apple Engineers don't have kids and don't have a clue what they can and will do.

Simply restricting the "Settings" would make the device much  more useful in my opinion.

There is a way to allow only a "white list"ed set of websites on the iPad. You will need to use a combination of the built-in Restrictions feature and a Safe Browser app (like Mobicip). The idea is to use Restrictions to make the safe browser the only window to access the internet on the iPad. Mobicip offers an optional premium subscription that lets you add specific websites to your own "white list". You can even enforce the whitelist-only mode, where only the websites on your white list will be allowed and all else will be blocked.

When you are done setting up the safe browser app, go to Settings > General > Restrictions and enable the feature. On this screen you can turn off Safari, YouTube and Installing Apps (to prevent other browser apps from being downloaded).
