I consistently repair the following permissions which appear in the next report as not fixed?  Any way to permanently resolve this?  It appears to me these particular permissions could be very harmful if not controlled:

Permissions differ on "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jconsole.ja r", should be lrwxr-xr-x , they are lrw-r--r-- .

Repaired "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jconsole.ja r".

User differs on "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib", should be 0, user is 95.

Repaired "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib".

User differs on "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Libraries", should be 0, user is 95.

ACL found but not expected on "private/etc/hosts".

    When you see:  Permissions repair complete

     

    That's all you need to see. They aren't errors, just messages.

    Thank you.  I read the article which explains all the errors except the private/etc/hosts ACL.  Is there any known explanation for that message?

    Did you ever change permissions on the hard drive and tell it to apply to enclosed?

    That would add an ACL to that file, but you'd likely have a whole lot more.

    You can see what the ACL is by running this command in Terminal:

    ls -ale /etc/hosts
    

    The ACL will be starting with 0:

    You can remove the ACL with

    chmod -N /private/etc/hosts

    Thank you, but before I closed the post, I downloaded the ACLr8_v1.2.2 tool and ran it on my machine.  Although the repair function in Disk Utility was unable to resolve the message, this utility was able to fix it for me.
