Is FCP X any relation to Racer X?  Distant cousin?  or is "X" a common last name where they are from?  I think OS X came from the same place.  Their dad?

Hang on, when exactly did I imply that then amigo?

On a side note, I agree entirely with Robert Tompkins! Let's go back to mindless speculation and banter After all, if you already know it's not for you, why follow the thread?

Shane you really should address this question to Studio X

Now that you mention it...YEAH!  Studio X, what do you know about Racer X and FCP X?  Spill it!

Okay, some pink noise with a vignetted tinge of magenta... nice touch... maybe there's hope for you Shane (as a colorist).

    On the topic of RacerX.

Yes, there is an extremely superficial and only related by irrelevance, relationship between FCPX and RacerX. When I read this thread, it reminds me of a thread started about 11 years ago; for some unknown reason, my interest in Formula One racing was re-kindled, and I joined an on-line forum because that was the thing to do.  F-1 Live, which is now owned and operated by ESPN, I think, fostered a kind of noisy and juvenile atmosphere that focused on important issues like whether Mika Hakkinen really cried beside the Monza circuit when he lost the race because of a poor downshift going through Goodyear, or Nuvolari, or something.  Plus good fun exploring the polarization/animosity that exists between the tifosi and the rest of the world (tifosi are people who adore the Scuderia Ferrari team -- correctly, I should add-- as gods).  There were more than a few nut cases, and I mean certifiable, most of them MacLaren fans, I should think.  Don't get me going on Minardi.

I recall that it was about 2002 when a thread lingered on the forum for longer than usual, and then turned into a forum of its own.  It started out as "Dear Ferrari-Hater..."  The author (a future friend of mine, as it turned out) signed with the username "RacerX", of course inspired by the anime series "Speed Racer".  A form of that thread still exists, but it has been necessarily moved several times, as it used to crash the original host site every couple of weeks... they'd delete it... but somebody would have mirrored the whole thing and re-posted it... Every once in a while the moderators would kick us all off the site, and then we'd just all re-sign in as spoofs, reload the thread and eventually I think they just gave up.  Much fun was had by all.

it was, of course, total nonsense, and in fact at one point featured the high-speed death of Shamu, the beloved killer whale, in which a mysterious pair of red sox were involved.  Which became another website, which won some kind of recognition for "weirdest on the web" shortly after it launched.  I cannot name it here -- the original original no longer exists as a visitable URL.  Its like a secret shrine that only the origonal disciples can visit from time to time.

wasn't having a go at you

I was hoping people would lighten up a bit - every things going to be OK. I've followed Apple a loooong time, and to be honest, I've never suffered from their decisions; and I don't expect that to change anytime soon

Okay...a serious question for those of you who've been around for previous Final Cut Pro releases.

Like many, I'm anxious for the FCP-X release.  And I realize this release is a little different from previous releases in that it will be available through the online Mac App Store, as opposed to being sold as a box set.

Still, I'm wondering how Apple will make the announcement that it's available.

What's the typical scenario?  I would assume that because it's a pro app -- not one of the general user population -- there wouldn't be a keynote address along with the release.  Will it be merely a press release?

Would they use the Apple.com home page just for a pro app release like this?  Somehow that would surprise me.

So how will Apple make it known that Final Cut Pro X is finally available?

An event?  Or will it just quietly show up one day in the App Store?  That would seem a little un-Apple-like as well.

Surely they'll toot the horn a bit more than that.  Will they make another pre-announcement (like saying, "Next Tuesday, it will be available starting at 10 AM Pacific" or whatever)?  Or will they just hold some sort of event and say, "It's available as soon as we finish with this little event?"

I'm curious.  How do you think they'll let be known that FCP X is available?

@Dirk:  I'll take that to mean you're even more clueless than I am about how they're going to roll it out.
