For a year, I was using Outlook for sending and receiving emails in Iraq.  I backed up the .pst files to a disk and then used PST Converter Pro to import the emails and attachments into Apple Mail.

Now I am having trouble with being able to open and view encrypted emails and attachments.  Is this an issue with my CAC (smart card) certificate, or is there something that I need to do with a certificate from the sender of the email.  I can no longer ask the sender of the email to re-send unencrypted.

I do not use encrypted E-mail, so I have no first hand knowledge.  However, I did locate this article that may be of help:

Double-clicking should cause Keychain access to ask if you want to import it.

You also need to import your certificates from your CAC into Keychain Access (drag them into your login keychain), however it may work with just the card inserted.

Do you find the sender's certificate in your keychain?

Generally, the person you want to share encrypted emails with will send you a signed message. Then, that person's certificate will be stored in your keychain based on the email address. Then, when you get an encrypted email from them, you should be able to decrypt it.

With all the wickets the emails have gone through to get where they are, I'm not sure what is going to happen.

Sorry, I'm not sure how to fix it. I suspect that that act of converting them might have broken the ability to decrypt, but I don't know for sure.

I have the exact same problem.

    - Encrypted emials converted from .pst using PST Converter Pro

    - Have CAC certificates loaded

    - can only see a smime.p7m attachment

    Hoping you found an answer!
