If corrupted photos are the issue, then I am not surprised as this is something that has thwarted successful syncing of Apple products for some time (iPods, iPhone, iPad)...
I had to stop syncing photos with my Aperture library because syncing would be interrupted for an 'unknown reason' which I traced back using these forums to a corrupted image issue.
With over 80k photos, I was never able to find the 'corrupted one' so I stopped using the smart syncing all together and had to start exporting images to a sync folder; that's the same folder that my Apple TV syncs to for the screen saver, but so far no issues with my other devices that sync to it.

This is happening to me as well. The ONLY way I can fix it is by disabling the screensaver or using a builtin photo album. I've tried a clean iPhoto library, removing the photo caches, a clean iTunes, nothing works.

Yup, I had been having this problem since before the last two updates.
It went and then it's started happening again today.
I find that if you:
- Go into 'Screensaver'
- Select a standard photoset (e.g. 'Animals')
- Then give ATV2 a minute to respond to that selection (it took mine forever, I thought I'd killed it!)
- Once it's accepted that re-select your own album
- it should manage this in a few moments rather than the delay seen previously.
That seemed to fix mine just now - maybe it might help you guys?

I just wanted to throw my hat in the ring and say that I too am having this problem. Im pretty stoked I found this thread however. When I took my ATV back with the issue they just replaced it and told me if I had the same problem with the new one then it meant there was something in my setup that was causing it. I guess technically they are right because I too was using a "album art" folder sync for the screen saver. Wonder how stuff like this gets broken in updates? So weird...

Reboots after 5 minutes of music - Last week ATV worked fine. This week, reboots to "apple" after 5 minuts of music. I have two different computers on a Gigabit network, both apple sharing, results exactly the same - 5 minutes. Very annoying - how do I get this fixed ? It appears the reboot occurs just after the screen saver kicks in - I have tested 5 times now, and see the screen blank, the music name panel show up with music still going - then it crashes... I will try to stop the screen saver and see if that changes the results. Screen savers pictures were pulled from one computer.
Update - Changed screen saver to 2 minutes - now ATV crashes at 2 minutes... Changed screen saver pictures to default"animals", local pictures to see if the bug is related to getting pictures over the network... That seems to be the key - at 2 minutes the "animals" screen saver popped up and no reboot now..
At least this is a work around - use the local pictures as screen saver for now until Apple fixes that "undocumented feature".
Put me down for 1 hour BETA testing on ATV to find the bug.
This units reports using Software 4.2.2 (2203)

Ok - more update. After 1+ hours of getting music, using the "animals" screen saver - I stopped it and changed the screen saver to the computer also serving music - now it works fine -
Note - We have two Win7 systems both serving appleshare for music and pictures. The initial problem was occuring with System1 feeding music, and System2 being used as the picture source.
Changing settings set System 1 as both the music and picture source works. Changing to System 2 as both music and pictures works. Spliting the source again - System 2 as music and System 1 as pictures now works.
Spliting the source - System 1 as music and System 2 as pictures now works fine... *(argggg...) Hate it when a problem vanishes during testing.
So just fiddle with the setings and apparenlty they will stop misbehaving...

+1 here too. Started with the update that added MLB, still happening afte rthe last update -- 4.3 (2557). If I set the screensaver to the built-in animals or flowers it is stable. But if I set it to pictures from my computer the system resets as soon as the screen saver kicks in.

I just purchase an ATV2 and with the latest firmware update I also noticed the screen saver reboot error whenever I tried to show my own photos. It occurs with any folder (iPhoto or any other picture folder). If I reset my settings, do a restore to original settings, or connect it fircted to my computer with a Micro USB Cable and allow iTunes to do a complete restore, the ATV2 stops rebooting on activation of the screen saver. BUT, wait anywhere from 1 to 3 days, and the problems returns. I am so used to reseting my settings to temporarily fix the problem.
I called Applecare Support (I actually bought and Applecare Protection Plan for my ATV2). They did not know of any problems with the latest firmware release (surprise, surprise). After several different types of resets they concluded that it miust have been a "Hardware Problem" (go figure), and want me to return the ATV2 for repair. They refused to exchange it (I do not live anywhere near an Apple Store) and insist on sending me a box to return the unit for repair with a 4 to 6 business day turn around after I finally get the mailing boxto send the unit back to Apple. This is this first apple product that I was NOT given an opportunity to speed up the exchange by giving them my credit card to send out a new ATV2 to replace the old - very frustrating. And I am very surprised that the Applecare ATV2 help did not even know about the problem others are having with the same firmware update.
I am going with the hardware fix, curious to see if it will make any difference

Add me to this list. I've had my ATV2 for about 3 months now, and prior to Saturday, I only had it set to use an album of my dog as a screen saver. Someone mentioned it not using internal memory, but there was more than one time when my laptop (only computer I have) was left at work and somehow my ATV2 still played pictures of my dog as a screen saver ????? Maybe it was coming from my TC? I have no idea...
On Saturday I changed it to use "all" photos I have, it worked fine for two days and started this reboot sequence yesterday (Monday). I tried unplugging/replugging the lil guy in, but still no luck. I'll try messing with the options, and I also filled out a bug report to Apple. If anyone here hasn't done this yet, I would encourage it. I think the more attention it gets, the quicker it wil be resolved...

Well I finally received my ATV2 replacement from Apple. I was hoping that they would have loaded it with the older firmware, but not so. And this new ATV2 (loaded with the latest firmware) still has the Screen Saver REBOOT bug in it - no change from the first one.
So I am now waiting for apple to fix this latest firmware bug - unfortunately...

+1 on the reboots as well. This started after the last firmware update. Sometimes it will reboot after 10 minutes. Very frustrating.

Update from me. Having been fine for a while it's now started doing it again. Not sure why, but it's really, REALLY starting to annoy me.

even tried flashing to iOS 5 beta and same issue. all has to do with photos loading from my lib.
so officailly tested iOS 5 beta for ATV2 and SAME ISSUE!
does this mean no fix when iOS 5 is released?

I have upgrade my Apple TV2 to firmware 4.4 and upgrade to iTunes 10.5. So far after 3 days of playing on the Apple TV streaming my photos from my Mac I have NOT had any reboots of the ATV2 at all. It looks like Apple has finally fixed this bug with the recent releases of IOS5, iTunes 10.5, and the new ATV2 firmware.
Has anybody else had a different experience?

For what it's worth; I had the same problem with rebooting every few minutes - and loosing audio after it rebooted.
What I did; Used a network cable instead of wifi, and the problem was gone. Running latest version of the apple tv2 software, itunes and lion.....
