Through iTunesProducer "Open Package" did you just update the description or did you reupload a new EPUB asset as well? In my (limited) experience I've needed to re-upload the book (even if there are no changes I have re-created the EPUB file) and only then the description has been updated. When I tried just changing the description but leaving the EPUB unchanged there was no update of the description.
Thanks Robin. I have tried that as well, including uploading the new epub files that is, but it has had no impact- the updated description is never published.... :-( I've email three times, and I'm positive that I'm using the latest version of iTunes Producer. It's very frustrating. (Not to mention that it's killing my sales on the iBookstore!)
Sorry to hear that mm, don't know what else to suggest. I almost never get a response from them either. My sales are almost dead also, I have several bridge (cards) books published and even though they all say bridge in the description and in the BISAC code, one of them just will not appear in any search unless you type in the actual title and author. I have asked for help through iTunesConnect Contact Us but it the silence is DEAFENING.
Hope you find a solution.
Agreed. And the silence is unexpected too. I have an App that's been on the App store for over a year and they have always been diligent about replying to support questions. (To the point where they even call on the phone sometimes!) My book on the iBookstore, was selling fairly well UNTIL I updated the content a little bit and uploaded a new epub file. (It's a travel guide- just needed a few tweaks for the current year.) I am pretty frustrated about this and have actually gone ahead and added my ebook to Kindle, Google Books and Barnes & Noble- outlets where at least I can update the descriptions at will! But I'll keep working on it with Apple, and if I learn of an easy solution I'll let you know. Best, Marjorie
May I ask if this was resolved? I am having the same issue. My screenshots are squished in the iBookstore (but only when viewed on an iPad) - which makes it look like the book is going to be all squished images! I have emailed and republished for 12 days now, and nothing!
Any help or insight would be appreciated.
Hello mmsterne, could explain how the upadate of content could have a bad result regarding your selling? I simply can't imagine, except the book will not be listed in search results anymore with the intention to "punish" you for updating. But that is hard to believe.
The updating issue is quite important and confusing...
I agree, the updating issue is important and confusing. Inability to update the description is harmful to my sales because my iBook is a travel guide. If users can't tell that the book is up to date for a current year, they won't buy it. So, even if I update the content, it doesn't help without also updating the description on the iBookstore.
I guess I misunderstood the reason for the decrease of your sellings.
I thought you made an update and THAN you got the problem.
But in fact it seems the problem is due to NOT having success with the update.
however, perhaps I can contribute what I got from a friendly person at itunes support:
"With regard to changes that can be made, once a title has been delivered to the iBookstore, the only changes that can be made through iTunes Connect are updates to pricing, territory rights, Cleared For Sale/Not Cleared For Sale, and DRM settings.
For all other changes (e.g. correcting author name or book title), please make a metadata change request through the Contact Us form in iTunes Connect under the topic "Metadata, File Formats, and Subject Categories."
Actually that is not the whole story, particuly regarding using producer. It seems to me that I did read somewhere that there is a kind of maximum for updates per quarter of year. I mean updates that are NIT regarded as new versions of a book. I somebody could write an ibook about all this matters, easy to understand and complete, with an index, would be great. i would buy first.
I have an update.
If you need to update the description of the book or other metadata, you need to get a form from Apple and they do it for you. This is not immediately clear from the descriptions on the support pages. How did I find this out, you ask? I called a number and a real live (and really helpful) human answered the phone from Apple. No, I am not kidding.
Here's the number for support: 877.206.2092. I hope this helps @mmso1 and anyone else who find the process somewhat byzantine.
