Front Row expects them to be in the Movies folder. The workaround is to place an alias of the file in the Movies folder.

Jul 7, 2011 7:08 AM in response to Klaus1by Silly rabbit,Noice! Thanks for this.
I have been wondering how to get Front Row to notice my external hard drive/s. A folder alias works a treat! Although, I have to admit, there is a little lag on Firewire 400. Might try FW800 and USB to see if there is any difference.
Thanks again

Jul 7, 2011 7:14 AM in response to Silly rabbitby Klaus1,I don't see any lag from an external HD connected by Firewire 400.
USB2 is much slower.

Jul 7, 2011 9:58 AM in response to Klaus1by Silly rabbit,Thanks Klaus1,
By 'lag', I only mean a few seconds slower than files stored on the internal drive of my 2006 iMac. I pick up my new 11" 1.6Ghz 128GB 4GB RAM MacBook Air tomorrow. Will be putting it to the test with a 22" display. I can only use USB2, of course. - Santa Claus is coming to town!
