I've been having the same problem...

I can turn up the volume and get it to stay sometimes but not always.  It happens while I'm using my Nike+ and Nike headphones as well.

    Please help!

Same problem here.  Sent in the nano to apple in calif, they could not find any issues and stated the nano was working properly.  The day i got it back from apple the volume dropped on its own after 30 min.  Several posts on here reference the same issue.  Hopefully apple is listening.

Couple of ways this could occur. Both involve sweat or water.

If you are using a headset where there are buttons on the wire to adjust volume and pause/play, then some water or sweat has gotten in there and it is shorting out the volume button and causing your volume to adjust without you hitting the button yourself.

The other possibility is that water or sweat has gotten up inside the iPod itself and is doing the same thing to the volume down button on the nano.

If this is only happening when you are working out or extra wet for some reason, that would explain it.

I had the same problem. When I unchecked the option to fill my ipod with music under the music tab in itunes, I never had this problem again.

I have the same problem. I have reset the nano hoping that would solve the problem but it has not. If moisture is the issue, is there any solution?

I also have not put more than 60% content on my Ipod Nano either, so it wasn't just a matter of unchecking the "fill my ipod with music" option. Maybe that will do the trick? I really have a hard time believing the moisture issue at least from working out. If you will notice, the ipod never makes contact with the skin when clipped. There is a gap. I could see temperature variations causing moisture to accumulate inside the device, but I'm not buying the story regarding working out.

I really think there are seeking errors with the flash storage on the device, which leads me to believe that there are issues with using the full storage of the device. I have no facts to back that up, but that is just a shot in the dark. In any case, I have never again had the volume decrease on its own again when I cut down to less than 60% storage on the device.

I purchased a completely water proof armband for the nano and the volume issue stopped.  In my case seems the prob was moisture
