Q: Logic Pro 8 is not supported under Lion?

Is there a reason why Logic Pro 8 is NOT supported by  Lion. I have been holding off buying Logic 9  for the next Logic release and now I am a little dead in the water. Is my only real option to go back to Snow Leopard? I still don't understand how Logic 8 and Intel native app could fall over.

I have had the same problem! Something similar happened when I upgraded to Snow Leopard, my HP printer didn't work. Apple released an update a few weeks later. But this is a bit disgusting, this is more serious than a printer. I don't want to spend more money upgrading to Logic Pro 9. Does anyone know any further information? Will Logic 8 ever work?

So, you upgraded the OS and Logic will not run?

Not supported and not running are two different things.

More details on this situation please.

Does not run, does not launch, just flat out says Logic 8.0.2 does not work in a dialog.

I just spent over an hour and £21 upgrading my mac's operating system to Lion only to find that, when I went back to work to finish a mix I was working on this morning, my computer is not compatible with Logic anymore. This is something that would've been useful to know prior to my downloading Lion.

It says "You can't use this version of the application Logic Pro with this version of Mac OS X" then underneath it says "You have Logic Pro 8.0.0"

Anyone got any ideas? Or, do I have now have to ditch Lion and accept that I've just wasted £21 and half my day...?

Mine just isn't running either. my version is 8.0.2. I'm guessing Apple will release an update soon. But how long i don't know. It's pretty frustrating.

Sounds like Apple won't let it work, not that it can't work.

I guess the safe course of action is to not do a major OS update if you're not running the latest versions of all your software and plugins.  Or at least don't update the second it's released, wait until others have tried it out and get the info about what is compatible and what isn't.  This time around it sounds like some changes have been made that make a difference for audio apps and plugins, with the exception of people running Logic with no third party plugs it seems like many will be waiting for plugin updates.

And I wouldn't get your hopes up for 8.0.3.

Here are the applications supported by Lion so far:

    - Final Cut Pro X

    - Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 (with all available updates)

    - iPhoto 9.1.5

    - iMovie 9.0.4

    - GarageBand 6.0.4

    - iWeb 3.0.4

    - iDVD 7.1.2

    Other are not supported yet.

Guys, first rule, you should not upgrade a working machine in the middle of a project to a newer OS without first checking compatibility... Big mistake.

im really curious to how this process actually works. i am aware that logic studio installer is actually PPC for some reason and the app itself is universal. sort of saw this coming since lion is all intel.

i was getting ready by having logic studio installed via snow leopard then upgrade to lion. that way i can avoid the ppc installer. but if that doesn't work then i don't know what ill do.

i dont want to pay extra money to upgrade. nothing new in logic 9 where i have to upgrade. or i guess we have to wait till apple makes a release of Logic Pro X (GarageBand Pro) ugh~! at the app store.

    please do keep updating.

If i switch back to Snow Leopard now, would I be able to download Lion later for free, when they sort it all out?

Marc, where did you find that list, and what about Logic isn't supported?  Or is it a case where it works but they haven't officially listed support?

WIth Lion, it's possible to copy/backup the installer file before installing (it deletes the file when you actually do the install) and keep a copy so you don't have to download it again.

iJny9956, version 9.0 through 9.03 of Logic were universal, all versions since then are intel only.  If the installer is PPC only they're going to need to release an update of some kind that works around that.

Although... not an ideal solution... I wonder if changing the os version number using the developer tools "property list editor" would let Logic 8 run.

The info is located in the file   SystemVersion.plist

Probably not but I used the method to install software the supposedly required 10.5.8 (was running 10.5.5 at the time) Just changed the two 10.5.5 strings to 10.5.8 and the software installed and did work perfectly.
