The App Store keeps showing an update available for Virus Barrier Express even after I have removed it completely from my system.  Going into the Purchased list shows it is not installed.  When the application was installed it always said there was an update.  No matter how many times you clicked Update and allowed it to download and install the update, the App Store still showed the update needed to be installed.

On another machine it constantly shows an update for one of the installed applications but clicking the update button doesn't clear the update once it's been downloaded and installed.

Deleting the App Store preference hasn't resolved the issue.  Enabling the debug menu and using the Reset Applications option has not either.

I kind of have a similar problem. I deleted an app that I wanted to re-install and now the app still shows as installed and when I click on the "Install" button in the store purchase area it puts up a dialog that asks if I want to purchase the app again (and yes, I'm logged in correctly to my Apple ID account and I did purchase the app through the App Store). It seems like the original install was corrupted somehow or I "broke" something when I tried to uninstall the app. In any case, there appears to be no way to do a clean install (or re-install) of an app you've purchased from the Mac App Store.

I'm having the same problem. I also am unable to update all the apps at once through iTunes, but I can do it manually even not they don't all show up as being updated.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. My Mac App Store icon tells me that I have an update for 'Angry Birds' the problem here is, I have never never even downloaded Angry Birds, not only that when I clicked on 'update' just to see what would happen it comes up with someone else's E-mail address to log-in to.

According to the iTunes support I have a Glitch quote "

it is simply a glitch in the MacApp Store system. I can certainly appreciate how eager you must be to resolve this issue, and I would be more than happy to help you out with that today.

Steve, the only way to get rid of this 'update' is to uninstall and reinstall the MacApp Store from your computer.

So I have to uninstall and then re-install problem is I can't find it anywhere on the Apple site, so my question is does anyone know ( link would be helpful ) where I can download the 'Mac App Store' software Please

Look forward to some sound reply.

    Many thanks

    Steve

I found out what was causing my problem (can't re-install an app that I deleted and which was purchased from the App Store). The app I was trying to re-install under Lion was Apple's Compressor v4 which is only available through the Mac App Store. However, even though I was booting from my one-and-only copy of Lion the Mac App Store was apparently getting confused by an old copy of Compressor v3.5 that was installed on another boot disk that I maintain for Snow Leopard. I'm running on a quad-disk Mac Pro so all four disks mount whenever I start the system. In any case, all I had to do was unmount the other disks and the Mac App Store then allowed me to install Compressor v4 on my Lion system.

The reason I was able to pinpoint this solution is that I wanted to run another Mac App Store app (Find Any File) and even though the Store said it was "Installed" I couldn't find the application in either the Lion Application folder or within LaunchPad. I then realized that the App Store was referencing the copy of that app that was stored on my Snow Leopard disk and unmounting that disk finally allowed me to install both Compressor v4 and Find Any File on my actual/current boot disk (i.e. Lion).

Now, the odd thing about this problem is that Compressor v4 wasn't installed on any of my disks, it was the older version of Compressor (v3.5.3) that apparently was preventing me from installing the new version 4 on my Lion system. In fact, Compressor v3.5.3 crashes immediately under Lion so that version of the app isn't even usable when I'm running Lion.

So, if you're having a problem with installation or app removal or updates from the Mac App Store try dismounting any other disks which you might have attached to your Mac and see it that solves your problem. If it does solve the problem then you can almost be assured that the cause of your difficulty is some file that is present on one of your other disks (i.e. app may not even be on your current boot disk).

    Well known problem.

When we uninstall an app, the app store doesn't change its database so it behave exactly as if the app was always here.

    File a feedback to Apple.

If we are numerous I guess that they will take care of that.

I have exacly same problem here. I have purchased the Angry Birds but now when I try to update it its shows me the same apple ID and password prompt. When I try to overwrite it with mine I get error message (4).

My biggest problem is that xcode is showing installed but I don't have it (removed through Clean My Mac) - now I can't get it back

    Go to the MAS,

    Select Xcode

    press the FN keywhile clicking

As far as I know, it will force a new download.

The scheme is described in a technote but I have no time to search it.

I made it go away by restarting the Dock:

    1. Open the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
    2. Enter this commnad: "sudo killall Dock" (and provide the appropriate credentials)
    3. Now you should see the badge icon disappear and been reset to none (if you don't have any more apps that require updating)

I hope this works for you guys as well.

That email address - hmm...  I dont suppose you downloaded and installed any 'unofficial software' via torrent recently did you? A virus/dodgeware is the only thing i think I have done to enable my mac to also get that odd email address pop up on app store!  Any one else do that?  I could be im barking up the wrong tree, but instincts tell me it might be related.

The solution of having a mounted disk worked like a charm for me, thank you very much Waymen! I have a drive that I use for periodic SuperDuper backups, a complete image of my system. As soon as I turned that off the Mac App Store started to work just like it did before.
