Not only does Safari hang a lot, but many other applications seem to hang very often.
Desktop&ScreenSaver, App Store..
The worst as far as I know is QuickTime does not play videos properly at all.
There are hideous lags in pictures.
A bit dissapointed to be honets and it is irritating.
There aren't many posts on hang ups in Lion, are they?
You need to determine what might be causing these issues on your system; it sounds like a network app like an anti-virus or filtering app may be having issues.
I and many, many other people have been running Lion for months now without hangs other than those caused by third party apps.
Flash usually crashes rather than cause hangs but Adobe admits up front Flash Player on Lion should still be considered "beta" level support.
Some things that might help with general slow-downs in Lion:
Make sure you have plenty of free space on the startup drive (good rule of thumb is 10-20 GB or 20% of drive capacity, whichever is less)
Clear caches with OnyX (but be careful; OnyX is powerful and can mess things up, so be absolutely sure you know you want to do what will be done before you click "Execute")
As new caches get rebuilt in Lion things will speed up a bit.
Weird, huh? Same thing with me. Came back on my machine after a particularly nasty Fusion-related crash and an atypically looooong restart. Then went away again. I think first time up with Lion, Safari 5 'learns' and records a lot of things about your computer, your bookmarked sites, (who knows? I don't claim to be an expert), and while it's busy doing this it hangs a lot. Once it has all this info, it's a lot snappier and more stable. Not to say that Lion itself is still not as stable as Snow Leopard. But I expect that'll come.
In full screen mode safari is realy unstable and tends to hang, and if one tab is hanging, won`t work the other tab`s and windows as well.
The anoying thing is that after killing safari and restart the app you end up in the same hang and you have to reset.
hope they start doing their home work soon,
lion look realy nice and shiney but ist not running smooth, they seam to have delivered a building site.
Same problem. Reset of Safari sometimes helps for awhile. Just bought a new MacBook Pro and the entire process has been a train wreck, particularly the upgrade to Lion. Reminding me of my purchase of a Windows Vista machine a few years ago. I had been concerned that Apple's success and high adoption rates would cause them to start slipping and this has felt just like buying a Windows PC.
Ironically, i'm posting this from a Windows PC running Internet Explorer since i can't load the pages in Safari on my brand new Mac.
Let's go Apple, if Safari isn't reliable with Lion, that's a major issue.
Same here, Safari hangs often after upgrade to Lion.
First suspected the usual flash player problem but stopping the flash player process didn't help, Safari still hangs and makes the whole computer extremely slow and hard to use. Stopping the Safari process has "solved" the problem each time.
Have the problem in both full screen mode and in window mode. I first loved the full screen mode but was very annoyed over popups opening a new tab and when trying to close this tab, the "x" to to close did't appear without first switching to another tab and then back.
Fix Safari, Apple!

What's the point of saying that you don't have these problems in a thread for users that have them?
Because otherwise people might think everyone running Safari in Lion has these issues, and that's far from the truth.
So far many have turned out to be Safari "enhancers" or plugins people had long forgot they had installed.
