Upgrading iTunes in no way affects the library.
The issue is that iTunes can no longer find the files where it expects them.
Did the files get moved at some point? Are they physically on the computers hard drive? an external drive?

My Library is intact but 10.4 refuses to relink to the iTunes Library file on either my original laptop location or the NAS location. The file is grayed out. I have wasted too much time trying to get iTunes to work over my network. It's tim eto buy Airfoil or run some wires.
