Q: Quicktime Previews - Gone?

Seems like all my quickview previews of .mov files are not working (even when you hit the space bar). Just getting the quicktime icon with a option to open in quicktime.... anyone else?

well this seems to have fix my problem.

    - Uninstall any Divx components. I had 3vix installed, once removed it all started working.

    good luck

FWIW, the file you uploaded showed its quicklook via spacebar.

Thanks!  That was driving me nuts.  Worked perfectly with the uninstall of 3ivx.

    Really appreciate the assistance.

I have a similar problem, but there is no 3ivx file, nor did any changes in dvix ( without running, reinstal of Divx , you name it) help.Quick time starts and stops after less than a second. In the beginning Quick time worked a few days after the first installation of Lion.I asked apple support a few weeks ago - no response. At least I'm not the only one who has no solution yet.All older versions of Quicktime work fine, vcl, Miro, Divx even itunes video or the Logic view. But Quicktime for Lion doesn't work.So I don't use Quicktime. Why is only a bug-report possibility if a program crashes ?

Have you installed any other software since the Lion installation? Sounds like somthing got in there and smashburgered your quicktime. I would remove any codecs or other plugins as a start. Are your quictime 'quick look' via spacebar working?

    same problem here..

just install Perian (http://perian.org/) and every video file will be previewed!

    works here

I just installed Maverick (no other changes or updates) and now have the same problem.

Quickview no longer previews .mov files.

It works fine on every other file type including other videos such as .MP4, but not on .mov files.   Instead of previewing the video it only shows the static, generic QT emblem.

    This is incredibly annoying.

This is obviously a bug in 10.9 that Apple needs to address.  Apple, if you are listening please fix this bug. Quckview is too important a tool lose.

I believe this is a underlying video change Apple has implemented. If you open the file it converts it into a Prores file, which you have to resave which is very annoying and waste of space...but essentially its not a bug. Mavericks previews a limited amount of codecs now. Thats the info I have found out so far

    Thanks BROOKLYNTREEZ,

I installed the Perian 1.2.3 preference pane (in Mavericks) and now a majority, but not all of my .mov files are quick viewing properly again.  The ones that still won't all appear to be H264 format, and some of these won’t even play in QT.  They open with sound only and a black video.    The fact that Perian seemed to help with the majority of files makes it seem like Apple could find some workaround.  (Considering a discontinued and unsupported private software patch seems to help)   Call it a bug in 10.9 or not, when Apple "upgrades" an operating system, and we loose previous capabilities I'm disappointed. Hopefully an update will address this lose of functionality in Quick View and Quick Time.
