Q: Logic Pro 8 is not supported under Lion?

Is there a reason why Logic Pro 8 is NOT supported by  Lion. I have been holding off buying Logic 9  for the next Logic release and now I am a little dead in the water. Is my only real option to go back to Snow Leopard? I still don't understand how Logic 8 and Intel native app could fall over.

I am a little concerned that the only purpose of any 8.0.3 update would be to block our little work around here...

I'm saving for my upgrade as I write this!

But EVERYTHING is overpriced in Australia!

Sure.. and many wrongs don't make a right.  However, the point of my post which was that for some reason Logic is greatly overpriced even by Apple's standards, which lately have been kinda reasonable - about 10-20% on top of the US price for any other software or hardware.

On the other hand Logic at 50% more it looks like a mistake, or that a pricing adjustment is long overdue.

And while this all could seem off topic, it has some relevance to the hidden costs of upgrading to Lion which btw is only $31.99 here vs $29.99 US.

And relative wage differences?  Should have little impact on the price of imported goods, especially things like software.  It is mostly the exchange rate that matters which currently is around 1 AUD = 1.09 USD.

    That's my 2.2 cents... sorry couldn't resist :-)

It just goes to show that Apple needs to create a proper patch for this.  Why would we, the paying customers, have to go to "Show contents" and execute the unix file in order to run the app.

If a patch doesn't surface within the next week or so, I will create a new partition and reinstall Snow Leopard or simply format my iMac and reinstall everything the way it used to be... and worked.

    30$ for a big headache...

Just tried saving a new concert and reopening it. It won't open. This will not work. I hope someone is able to find a work around.

I hope Apple management reading this.  The first rule Marc, is to test software before releasing it, especially the software written by the company itself.  I am an early adopter, or to say it properly, used to been an early adopter.  I am done with this BS.  What happened to so called "apple experience"?

The moron who is in charge of Lion development should be fired on the spot and all the brain dead programmers under his management.  I am so disgusted that I run out of printable english, so I better stop now.

I have logic studio version 8.0.2 and it gives me the message that this version is not supported by the Lion OS..A bit of text on the update page at apple would have been good to let you know prior to forking out your $31.99 to upgrade to lion, that it will not support your $800 logic 8 studio..aghhhhhh

I think Apple is in the position to give or deny support of its older products. I think I've seen a page where they tell that Logic is supported on Lion from version 9.x and above. This means that if you want to be sure to continue to use Logic 8 you should stay with Snow Leopard (you can also virtualize it inside Lion now). Or you can try the *unsupported* workaround mentioned in this thread...but no one knows if it will work forever or not.

I seriously doubt Apple will put a patch just to deny Logic 8 users use the "Show Package Contents..." trick. If at a certain point the workaround won't work will be just because Lion would seriously crash while using Logic 8.

Remember that an application has to be developed with Lion's features and architecture in mind (64-bit, suspend and resume, etc) to be proficient under this new O.S., I doubt when Logic 8 was written it was done with Lion beside. To sum up, if you want to continue to use Logic you have FOUR choices:

1 - stay with 8 and and Snow Leopard

2 - use 8 with the trick for Lion and pray that will work and stay stable for a long time

3 - virtualize Snow Leopard under Lion and install Logic 8 inside the virtual machine (still haven't tried this, anyone?)

4 - wanna use it under Lion and not have any problems, upgrade Logic to version 9 (or wait for Logic X, that's what I am doing, when steps 2 and 3 won't work well anymore)

Thank you for your suggestions, but I do not consider them acceptable.  If I would want to scratch my left ear with my right hand, I would be using windows.

I just have sent an email to Steve Jobs informing him of this matter and I will post a reply if he ever writes one.  The text of the email follows:

    Dear Steve Jobs,

Sorry for troubling you with what may appear as a small issue, but I am so steamed that

smoke is coming from my ears.

I upgraded to Lion and just discovered that Logic 8 is no longer works.

There was no warning, nothing.  I have to make changes to the project and

I am out on my behind.

The larger point is "apple experience" which you so successfully promoted.

What kind of an experience is it.  Logic is apple software.  How can it be that it is

no longer works?  This is unbelievable.

I hope that you realize that whoever is responsible for this, in one step destroyed

what you have built over so many years.

I wish you all the best and fervently hope that

you shall recover and get back to actively manage the company

that you built.  It seams that without you things are falling apart.

    Best regards,

If a railway you're traveling on gets irremediably broken, would you call the staff and just wait for it to be repaired, jump off the train and continue the trip with a rented car, or change the train wheels with tires?

Answer this and you'll know the best answer for you about continuing using Logic.

    (the railway is os/application compatibility)
