Jul 20, 2011 11:27 AM in response to jessica289by NicoNB,There is this fraise on anandtech that is frustrating me even more now.
Anandtech wrote:
All the way down you can read "Apple will continue to sell the existing 27-inch Cinema Display as the new Thunderbolt Display will not work with machines that don't support Thunderbolt.".
Practically, mini display port is dead EOL.
And here is why it frustrates me:
I cannot really use the 24ACD with my new iMac. And if I buy a new screen I can no longer use it with my MBP. How smart is that Apple?

Jul 20, 2011 1:49 PM in response to NicoNBby ucruci,I am still waiting for a remedy to make my Apple 24 inch display to work with my Macbook Pro 2011 but I don't think it will be coming.
It looks to me Apple thinks it's necessary to SCREW 24 inch display owners in favor of going ahead with the Thunderbolt technology, "collateral damage" if you will. They are still making tons of money so who cares, right?

Jul 20, 2011 5:56 PM in response to jessica289by Hey Ryan,Same here, just updated my 2011 Macbook Pro to Lion and still getting random blackouts and flicker.

Jul 21, 2011 7:16 AM in response to DanRybby caleixo,I really don’t understand how can an brand like apple, who has total control of their hardware, not really care about it. 24-inch LED Cinemas are not an obsolete piece of hardware. And we buy their latest (and more expensive) macbook pro model and it simply doesn’t work. I’m waiting... like a fool.

Jul 21, 2011 7:39 AM in response to caleixoby BarrettF77,I have two of the 24" ACDs and they are both doing this. It beyond frustrating to have spent 3500 plus on a new iMac computer and have apple care tell me to simply wait. Waiting is what I have done for the last couple of months. I'm set to pull the trigger on a new Mac Mini computer but am holding off on any more purchases with apple until I can get this issue resolved.
The thunderbolt display is looking like what they are deeming the fix to be which is fine as I won't be regressing to dipslay port for any reason. However, it looks like if you order a computer with the thunderbolt display it ships now? Otherwise it says it's 6-8 weeks out on their site. Which is correct?
I am hoping that apple makes this right as we spend good hard earned money on these products.

Jul 23, 2011 8:12 AM in response to BarrettF77by ptaylor874,Don't bother getting the new mini if you think it will fix the issue. I'm typing on my brand new 2011 mini connected to my 24" Cinema display and it is flickering. Last night it did it a little, but today it's doing it more frequently.
I haven't read through the entire thread, but perhaps I'll try to hook it up via some adapters. If there are adapters to be able to attach your mini-DP to a DVI port...??

Jul 23, 2011 10:48 AM in response to ptaylor874by kram.rebrab,Yep - I can confirm ptaylor874. The 2011 Mac Mini's connected to the 24" Cinema Display (Mini Display Port to Thunderbolt) exhibit screen flickering, vertical line flashes and momentary blackouts. This is happening to me and spent a lot of time with Apple Support going through various tests. Really surprised to see there is a lot of history to this problem.

Jul 24, 2011 10:44 PM in response to DanRybby elhombre,Ok so presumably all new units with Thunderbolt has this problem. Thinking this might not be fixed via software and/or firmware update.
Since it has been months I'm starting to ask my self how long can they continue to stall this. I know it would be costful to change hardware or start a return program for all of us with 24 Cinema Display.
The question is will they leave us behind? If so what can we as consumers do? The display is getting old so they could just state thats it's old and it's not working with thunderbolt. Issuing this on their website and they're good to go?
I'm gonna call Apple support again today (did'nt recieve a response for days from my technical contact).
I would appreshiate if you guys also could make today a call-in-day. So that they see how many people having problems, once again.
It's unfortunate I don't see anyone else can match Apples OS X and hardware in terms of usability and design, if there were I would be long gone.

Jul 24, 2011 11:05 PM in response to elhombreby NicoNB,Some people bought this 24" ACD less then a year ago. Stating that our 24" is obsolete would be ridiculous.
Apple clearly stated on the Apple website that the Thunderbolt port is (downwards) compatible with display port.
If the 24" ACD cannot be connected to an Apple computer with Thunderbolt they should have said so, I then may not have bought a new iMac. As long as this issue isn't fixed properly I am not buying a new MBA since that will probably also have problems with flickering on my 24" ACD.
Buying an new Apple ACD raises another question, will this new 27" ACD with Thunderbolt port also be abandoned in a few years because Thunderbolt is not taking off?
I am not a US citicen but maybe those who are could start a class action law suit against Apple. Maybe that will finally let them realize that you should not mess with your own customers.

Jul 25, 2011 10:26 AM in response to DanRybby jordanfromgainesville,Yup, just got a 2011 15" MBP (2gHz, 8GB RAM) and plugged her into my trusty refurbed Apple-cared 24" ACD. I occasionally get momentary screen blackouts as well. Very frustrating as it never happened on my 2008 uni-MBP. Let's hope for an EFI fix soon. BTW, I have NOT upgraded to Lion. One issue at a time is all I need. BTW2, my 2010 Air has no issues.

Jul 25, 2011 10:33 AM in response to jordanfromgainesvilleby jessica289,I just was on the phone with Apple support about my 24" display. Apple offered me 200$ towards a purchase of a new display.
So now I should just invest another ~800$ in a display from them.
I refused and told them clearly this was my last purchase with their company.

Jul 25, 2011 7:03 PM in response to jessica289by Hey Ryan,I tried to report directly to Apple Asia's hotline about my issue because I'm currently too busy to lug this large monitor to a Apple Service Provider. The one handling my call told me that they only offer software support and told me to bring it to a ASP.
Why do I have this sinking feeling that this issue won't be resolved in the near future.

Jul 25, 2011 7:23 PM in response to Hey Ryanby DEUCE SLUICE,New 2011 Mini, 24" LED Cinema Display, flickering. It seems like I get one every couple of minutes when the monitor hasn't been used for a few hours, then it calms down and acts right until it's spent a few hours asleep again.
Still completely inexcusable.

Jul 27, 2011 10:12 PM in response to DanRybby Hollady,Brand new Mac Mini mid 2011. Anyone interested in a class action lawsuit? This is ridiculous. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on Apple products (iPhone, iPads, iMacs, MBP, MBA) over the past 5 years. This is a Thunderbolt issue - I hook up my 2010 MBA, no problem.
Clearly Apple doesn't care to fix this, or we wouldn't have 33 pages of content and another 30 page sister spread, videos all over YouTube and Vimeo. I'm not litigous, but this can't go ignored by Apple any longer...

Jul 27, 2011 10:40 PM in response to Holladyby Lexus Luthor,@Hollady..where is this 30 page sister spread? I had a nice conversation with an Apple Store employee who strongly recommended that I come in w/ the bookmarked pages and show them so I can show the Genius bar peeps and they can help me move forward.
I will say that they had a new Mac Mini hooked up to a non TB 27" ACD and there was no black outs. I was in the store messing around for a good 2 hours...hahaha...its a new store in my town of Santa Clarita.
