Sep 6, 2011 6:54 PM in response to Zeroniousby Rstev39147,FYI in case none of the suggestions worked for you. I held my home button for 20-25 seconds then plugged it in to a wall charger. This worked after trying everything else mentioned here.

Oct 17, 2011 7:07 AM in response to Zeroniousby miketrt,NOTE - IF APPLE IS NOT POSTING A SOLUTION TO AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM - I WILL:
They obviously have a problem with ipad2 mysteriously shutting down and not coming back to life. There is a solution, but they apparently don't want to post it themselves, it's so easy - guess they want you to pay for the call or something. Un-Apple-like. Just wasted 15 minutes on hold and found the solution in a response on this thread before anybody picked up. Did MS buy Apple or something?
Here is what worked for me:
HOLD BOTH THE HOME (soft-edged square thingy on face side) AND POWER BUTTONS DOWN FOR 10 SECONDS. You'll get a little Apple icon for a bit, then just hit home again and voilla.
Hope that helps you.

Nov 9, 2011 8:34 AM in response to Zeroniousby bcarrington,Having same problem with iPad1 purchased 5 months ago (June 2011). Won't turn on at all, even after pressing Home+Power for 20+ seconds, with different combinations of having power cord plugged into wall outlet or computer or not plugged in at all. This is the first time I've tried to use it in about a month.

Nov 9, 2011 4:16 PM in response to bcarringtonby Rstev39147,Try holding only the home button for 35 seconds then plug it into a wall charger. Do not release the home button until you get the Apple icon.

Eventhought the unit was not plugged into a power point, somehow or rather it got spiked i think,,, my Ipad and lights in the cafe suddenly suddenly black out simultaneously... I guess don't use your Ipad during a storm. tQ

Jun 4, 2012 3:56 AM in response to Zeroniousby kfchan52,Just want to say I got an IPAD3 two weeks ago, and the screen went dead and couldn't bring it back up. Thks to the solution posted in this community board, I followed their advice with the two button procedure and it worked.
It seems that APPLE has not really fixed this problem with the latest APPLE IPAD.

Jun 8, 2013 1:14 AM in response to Zeroniousby wobel25,Had the same problem and the procedure worked while charging. You might have to wait for a second or five and now I'm relieved.

Aug 5, 2013 11:43 AM in response to sirfababy acarter,Thank you for posting this solution.
I have been a "trouble free" iPad4 owner for several months now.
This is the first time anything like this has happened.
The solution worked and I'm back now.
Thank you.
