I have a Macbook Air without a Firewire port. How do I sync an older IPod Classic if it requires a Firewire connection to do so?

I have c.2005 4th gen iPod Photo and U2 red click wheel iPod which came with firewire cables. I have used my daughter's 2010 iPod touch and my 2011 iPad2 USB cables to sync both older iPods to iTunes 9. I have not done this on an intel-based Mac, but I was just told by my Apple Store for Business that she syncs her iPod with Video to her intel-based mac.

Edited to add: What you can't do with the newer USB cables is *charge* your older iPod units. Syncing works fine, but the USB connection to a computer or to a wall brick won't work for the FIreWire-only iPods.
