Oliver Peters has an awesome blog post on FCP X. It really goes into allot of the frustration I am feeling about X.

I have really tried to put FCP X through it's paces, but it just won't work in the environment that I am in. In fact we are looking at needing a second FCP 7 system right now, and it is either rent one for 5 months, or buy one, and find FCS3 on ebay for over list price so we can do this job (the client is an all FCP 7 house, so we have to use FCP 7) on the project. And the 5 month rental will certainly cost more than buying the system, but it is so frustrating buying a system that is basically end of lifed before you even buy it.

Hmmm...im feeling a little bit conned. I just bought the new Intel Core i7 and purchased Final Cut Studio Pro and wasn't asked or informed of FCPX....should I be feeling a little annoyed?

To have the choice would have been nice!

Applestore online. I bought it on the release of the i7 as a bundle along with Logic Studio.

How long has FCPX been out?

    One month.

And I think I bought around the 1st May in the UK.

As I say, It would've been nice to know the options.

Ive always waved the banner for Apple and I feel that they are starting to get a little above themselves now they're the big guns.

Its a shame Commodore was so badly run....they'd of had some stiff competition now had they still been around...lol.

    Tom...

Given that Im stuck with FCP7....what would be a good video tutorial package to invest in?

Or...would learning FCP7 be a bad move since from here on in the building blocks will defo be on FCPX?

Lastly, would it be worth me challenging the sales dept who sold me FCP7 and see if they will be understanding enough to swap me out. I suppose in some ways its no different to the OS....they could say well you'll want us to throw in Lion next....

    Answers on a postcard please!

That's a strange post! You should feel overjoyed from what I've experienced with FCPX. But I've never had an Apple employee recommend or inform me of anything when shopping, unless I specifically asked about something. It's not like you go in and they try to load you up with stuff you don't need or want. They are not a car dealer. You always had the choice, but you probably made the right one -  time will tell. Cheers

I hear you....but what im saying is simply that FCPX will grow...will be built upon...sadly i think thats unlikely with FCP7. So...any hard work I do now might well be a waste of time and have me going through another learning curve later which i really could do without.

Generally a salesmans job is to actually give you options based on his knowledge..that's assuming he actually is informed himself. Actually, car dealers have tended to get themselves a reputation for selling duffers for gain..I know thats not the case with my salesman so we can put that one to one side.

    Yep...we shall see.

    Ta.

I'm prejudiced of course but my FCP7 and FCStudio training DVDs from Class on Demand are pretty darn good I think.

You could go back and see what they say. If you bought this computer within the last two weeks, they should throw in Lion. That has always been standard Apple policy, but who knows with the App Store now.

I stand to profit financially from this message.

I"d love to know the answer to this as well.  We do a lot of training programs and one in particular is we have a project with over 200 seperate sequences and batch export when we are done.

Right now FCPX is a non starter for us so we are moving the whole company over to an adobe base.  I'll continue to use FCPX on my personal computer as I like a lot of what it can do and I just hope that in time the gaps are filled in as they continue to develop this.

Hey Graham, are / have you guys upgrading to Lion? We've switched over to Prod. Prem. too because of FCx being unusable. But I've been delaying installing Lion to any of the edit bays as I'm not sure how it will play with CS5.5 Prod. Prem. apps. Additionally we're not encouraged by how Lion will interact with FCS3, which we'll have to keep on at least one bay for a while.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
