That thread is a differnt subject. I am concerned here with the "All My Files" favorite that is located in the Side Bar. If you remove this Favoite item with Finder Preference, it dose not display in the Side Bar, but (All My Files) are still listed in the right colum every time Finder starts.

I tried your suggestion and did not see any difference when I Relaunched Finder, Finder still has All My FIles showing.in the right column. What is quiting while holding the Option Key and your step 2 supposed to do?

are you trying to stop 'All My Files' loading in the right hand column
if so go to preferences from finder, generel tab, and change the 'new finder window show' drop down to something else
also check out the drop downs at the top of the finder window, you can sort this by recently used etc, so it gives you in a list of files today, yesterday
