Turning off 'resume'

Does anyone know how to avoid the 'resume' function? I'd like my browser (Safari 5.1) to just open to my homepage when I reopen, rather than the previous page I'd closed out of, and I can't find a way to get it to do so, either in Safari's preferences or in my MacBook Pro's system preferences. And no, it doesn't matter if I've fully quit or just x'ed out of the screen... Any guidance would be appreciated!
