I noticed that iDVD or iWEB are no longer available in the App Store (If they ever were).  Does anyone know what Apple is recommending as software replacements for these  producs, or are they being up dated and not available yet?

I was recently in an Apple retail store and noticed that iDVD is not anywhere in the Lion system, maybe a problem that needs to be fixed. I'm not aware of what is the situation with iWeb.

Agreed, but as I said, not too clearly, it was not to be found in the Lion system onthe demo computers in the store. What I didn't say was that a sales person told me that there was an issue to be resolved with iDVD and iWeb and that the store is waiting for a a fix.

When was that update released?? I got v 7.1.2 on 7/23. The reason for my curiosity about iDVD comes from my need to burn a disk for a project that I am working on and the themes of iDVD, themes 7 and 6, don't work as they should and I was trying to find the reason by consulting with Apple. When I tried to show them the problem I went to one of their computers and found that there was no iDVD accessible, it was then that the sales person told me of the iDVD and iWeb issue. I am running Lion but my machine was a Snow Leapord machine which I upgraded to Lion and iDVD was working fine in Snow Leapord but not so good in Lion.

As far as I know it should be available via Software Update.

It is now is apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple since it's reported that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.  iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:

Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:

    ◼ Password protection

    ◼ Blog and photo comments

    ◼ Blog search

    ◼ Hit counter

    ◼ RSS Feed Widget

All of these issues can be replaced with 3rd party optionsl  There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

However, Roddy McKay and myself have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.

There's no telling how long the iLife 11 boxed disk will continue to include iWeb and iDVD but I would imagine until the current stock runs out.

This is my first experience with software that I use being dropped ,without forwarning from Apple, with a new level release. Is it likely that there will be soe sort of explanation from Apple??

Apple had a pro DVD application named DVD Studio Pro which is part of Final Cut Studio but is also discontinued.

But haven't both Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Pro also been withdrawn?

I have extensively used iDVD and  DVD Studio Pro over the years. iDVD is wonderful for quick professional looking DVD's for friends and family. I have used DVD SP to make several DVD's for the local historical society which they have professionally duplicated and sell as fund raisers.

I am about to get a new iMac and as I understand iMovie, iPhoto, and Garage Band will be added to my App Store account for future use. OK, I will get out my old iLife disks and install iDVD but I would willingly pay to have iDVD in the App Store, (Same for SP which has been eliminated from Final Cut Family)

Why doesn't Apple put it there? Yes the future of video is likely streaming but for now DVD's are still mainstream! The historical society has raised $1,000's from the DVD's sold, yet without Apple's wonderful programs how do they raise money with online streaming which we are told is the future?

I do not understand how Apple has spent so much time and money developing two such wonderful, useful, and NECESSARY programs and just throw them out at a time (and dare I say for a long time in the future) they are needed.

I imagine if Apple were to add iDVD and DVD Studio Pro to the App Store they would be right up there towards the top of Best Sellers. Just look as iMovie, iPhoto, etc. are there. What does anyone who buys their first Mac do to make authored menu driven DVD's and does not have an old iLife '11 DVD or Final Cut Studio around?

I am likely just venting and "preaching to the choir" posting in this forum but I would like to imagine someone at Apple might realize they could sell a "few" copies and make their loyal supporters very happy!
